New firmware Philips DVP642

Noticed that today they posted a new firmware for the Philips DVP642.

http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/d/dvp642_17/?C=M;O=D

The .rom files are dated 5/26/2005.

Haven't tried installing it yet.

Anyone try this? I have a DVP642 and haven't had any issues....but more formats are better, right?

Would they have taken it off for a reason. I checked their site around the 22nd of July and there was no new firmware. But would firmware for the 642 series, which is US, do for the Euro 630???

So I found something interesting:

There is a new firmware available for DVP630/02

The files are dated 8/17/2005

The Updates section of the pdf states:

Key Features added in this software version
♦ Support external subtitles for DivX with the following fonts supported
- Latin 1, Latin 2 and Cyrillic (Refer to Instructions for use)
♦ Support DivX Video on Demand (VOD)
♦ Enhanced performance for DivX/MPEG-4 video files
♦ Support external subtitles for DivX with the following fonts:
o CP1254 - Albanian, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, Gaelic, German, Italian, Kurdish (Latin), Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish.
o CP1250 - Albanian, Croat, Czech, Dutch, English, German, Hungarian, Irish, Polish, Romanian, Slovak, Slovene and Sorbian.
o CP1251 - Bulgarian, Belorussian, English, Macedonian, Moldavian, Russian, Serbian and Ukrainian.
o CP1255 - Hebrew

I am not sure if it will work on DVP642/17. Anyone careless enough to try?

DJ Alik....Do you still have the firmware for the DVP642_17? Have you had any problems with it?

The ones you linked to above for the 630 have been installed on my 642/37. The firmware shows as VER0603.

Please post the other firmware as I would be most interested in trying it.

As far as I can tell this 0603 does not appear to have any significant difference to the 0112.

Ah, I thought there was a different version from those that were posted to the 642 directory but have since been removed. I did not realise the ones in the middle of the thread from the 630 directory were the same as the ones from the top of the thread for the 642.

Let's see that puts the firmware versions as:
2004 v0409 - dvpxx - only works on some early rom types
2004 v0531 - dvpxx, dvpxxdv - only works on some rom types
2004 v1109 - dvpxx, dvpxxdv, dvpxxew - works on rom types, adds macrovision
2004 v1223 - dvpxxew - download unavailable, found pre-installed on some units
2005 v0112 - dvpxx, dvpxxdv, dvpxxew - works on rom types
2005 v0603 - dvpxx, dvpxxdv, dvpxxew - has the files for rom types, only tested it on one of the later EW rom units.

Any others out there?

Thank you. The firmware was obviously placed in the wrong dir by Philips. That firmware was:
2005 v050517 - PAL output only

It has support for the following model numbers:
640K/93
642K/93
642K/75
642K/FK
642K/69

At the moment I think the one linked to above for the 630/02 is the best bet for newest firmware version with support for the following:

2005 v0603 - dvpxx, dvpxxdv, dvpxxew roms

Models supported:
630/00
630/02
630/05
632/00
632/02
632/05
642/17
640K/69
640K/75
640K/FK
630/04
632/04
642/37

Well, I notice that a new file has been placed in the following directories:

http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/d/d...42_fus_eng.zip 16-Nov-2005 21:01 2.5M
http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/d/d...17_fus_eng.zip 16-Nov-2005 21:01 2.5M
http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/d/d...37_fus_eng.zip 16-Nov-2005 21:01 2.5M

Don't bother with them though. The file version is v1109 and is the same CRC as the 1109 released in 2004.

So far the newest firmware is still:
http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/d/d...02_fus_eng.zip
2005 v0603 and has support for the units listed above.

I'm at a loss for why Philips has felt the need to repackage 2004 v1109 in the 642 directories.

Hi! When using .srt subs with AVI, does the DVP642 show the whole lines from first to last character or does it cut the long sentences (as many other DVD/DivX player )?

Thanks.
