Anyone caught a whiff of a Philips DVP642 firmware upgrade for DivX 6?
Title says it all. It would sure be nice to have menus, longer file names, etc., as the new DivX version claims to be able to deliver. I love my 642, but I absolutely hate the crappy menus.

Not as yet.
Philips don't appear to be very keen on adding new implementations to their DVP6xx range of players! No doubt you'll already be aware of your players quirks... that don't seem to be prevalent with other makes/models of players fitted with an ESS Vibratto II chip-set. That said, with Philips being an official (AFAIK) DivX partner, who knows they may, in time, offer full "DivX Media Format" (.divx) support! Cheers

Hell, I would just be happy if they would add AAC support then I could play my ND files. I wouldnt hold my breath on Divx6 support as I have seriously sent over 35 emails asking for AAC support and not one has been answered.

A month or so ago I spoke to a fairly high-up (European) Philips contact regarding future upgrades of the DVP6xx range.... Sufficed to say they did not seem too interested in exploiting the more advanced possibilities of the Vibratto II chip-set, such as AAC audio in .MP4, or even AR signalling in .MP4 or .AVI I don't know about the DivX Media Format... because I did not ask the question! Cheers
