Sony NS-305 with PAL TV
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers....Search=Search&
If you look in any of these reply's you see that this dvd-player supports Multisystem PAL/NTSC Convert. But is this really true? Can this dvd-player convert NTSC dvd's to a PAL output and can it convert PAL dvd's to a NTSC output? Cause I got a tv that only plays PAL, and when I hook this dvd-player to it, it only plays in Black and White. And I've looked everywhere, but I can't find a function to put it to PAL-output. Does anyone know if it's possible, to put it to PAL-output? |

Re: Sony NS-305 with PAL TV

It has 3 mode options: AUTO, PAL and NTSC. My TV is PAL-N, PAL-M and NTSC. Recently I was trying to watch a DVD disc that I bought in Italy, actually de DVD was PAL-B R2. But my TV doesnīt support that format, so I had to choose the option NTSC in my DVD player in order to watch that PAL DVD in color. If I choose for example, the PAL or AUTO mode, I will not be able to watch it in color īcause my TV doesnīt support PAL-B, thatīs why I chose to NTSC. NTSC is the output mode, so my Pioneer dvd player has to "convert" PAL to NTSC. If the option is PAL or AUTO, I will not be able to watch de PAL DVD in color because my TV does not support PAL-B. Hope this helped you.

![]() But I still ask myself why people state that there's a Multisystem PAL/NTSC convert option in it... or what it exactly means... |

Anyway, did you try doing exactly what the note says ?
I know the note says that you cannot change the color system of the DVDs, but you can try it anyway. ![]() If you couldn't do it, I think there's nothing much you can do about it, 'cause the TV doesn't support NTSC and apparently the Sony DVP-NS305 does not have an option to change the output PAL or NTSC manually. Good Luck !

I'm sorry to say xons, there's nothing more positive I can add to what's already been written.
There might be some tricks you can do like routing your DVD players output video signal through a VCR (as Gonzalo suggested in one of his posts), or even a satellite receiver. Then there's the "black-box" converter option. But such specialist devices such as this, can often be quite expensive (more so than another DVD player). And they don't always yield good results! Cheers

xons, are you in Europe and does your TV have a SCART socket? If so, just get a SCART cable and set your DVD player so it outputs in RGB (there might be a switch on the back or something in the menu). Then everything should display in colour, and with a better picture quality too!

A scart connection will not necessarily enable xons to view NTSC DVD's on his "PAL only" TV.... but it's well worth a try!
But please make sure you buy a "fully wired" scart lead and not one of those cheapo composite only jobbies! Although I have to ask you xons.... as a European user, why have you never tried connecting your equipment via scart before? Cheers

Well if his TV can take RGB through SCART (which, if it's anyway half-decent it will), colour encoding won't matter at all - it won't be PAL or NTSC - it'll be RGB ^_^
And he said he can see NTSC in black & white - so his TV can take 60Hz video. |

But I did connect my equiptment with a scart-cable but I never put it on RGB. So I thougt it was the NTSC-PAL issue, which it apparantly wasn't. |
