philips dvp642 question and comment

Question, do subtitles with xvids work? I've tried Movie.avi combined with the following: Movie.srt, Movie.sub and Movie.sub AND Movie.idx. I cannot get subtitles to work with any of these combinations...
BTW, I made a UDF dvd-r with a 2.3 gig avi. Played just fine.

well that's funny...I got srts to work right after I posted this. Still, I want to know why so many people say you can't play files larger that 2 gigs. I just did a UDF dvd, worked fine.

ok, my subs work sometimes, and not others. I can't tell why. Both the .avi and .srt have the same name. What am I doing wrong? One disc has only one movie on it. The other has two movies, but only one has subs.

The subtitle file can have any name, it doen't have to have the same base file name as the movie, as external subs aren't auto-loaded.
Instead you must choose the external subtitle file you want to load, by selecting it and pressing the Subtitle button on your remote, before playing the movie.
