MP4/AAC support for MediaTek chips is coming

press release

finally also mediatek's MT1389 and MT1390 chips will be able to offer mp4 and aac support, i think mediatek was the last big chip producer not offering this

now all it takes is the player manufacturers also enabling that feature on their players

Sadly there does not seem to be any mention that either of these chip-sets support high-def content

So it looks like Doom9's earlier post has been answered.

Cheers

there's no info whatsoever about the 1390 so I wouldn't draw any conclusions on that. Mediatek is supposed to eventually release a high def chipset.. just like the competition is (the Vaddis8 was supposed to be shown at CES according to some financial statements I found).

It's difficult to understand the logic of some of these chip-set manufacturers!

You would think if they were creating high-def chip-sets, they would be actively promoting them
