It's an official firmware, but that phrase "New Nero MP4" is not correct. I think it supports the MP4 container and the decoding of NeroDigital ASP profile.

well if its certified by nero it will for sure support the .mp4 container, with aac-lc audio (no matter what aac codec used) and asp video (meaning b-frames, but no qpel and no gmc, no matter what encoder used), vobsubs and chapters

maybe it also supports more, but as a guideline, thats what the nero certification means, if its nero certificated

Nice one!

Is anybody able to confirm the chip-set type please?

hm it seems the RJTech RJ-4000 player uses the Vibratto S chip, mayba the 1500dvx also uses a vibratto?
most players with .mp4 support use the vibratto II btw

just guessing

The RJ-Tech RJ-1500DVXII uses the ESS Vibratto II. I'm going to try this firmware update right now.

Correction: I'll try this firmware as soon as I can make a nero digital disc. I can't believe I have all of mine in another location.

Flashed the player and the first thing I noticed is the splash screen is different. Gone is the swan. Now there is a yellow background with a RJ-Tech Logo and the slogan "a new way of life". I didn't mind the last splash screen but what I do like about the change is that it confirms the firmware update better than the last one.

I just made a Nero Digital CD disc using Recode 2 with two channel stereo from a backup of a DVD movie I had made earlier using AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 on a DVD+R.

After putting the disc into the RJ-1500DVXII and the screen displaying READING INDEX... for several seconds, it played!!

I thought I was going to have to wait until I purchased a Nero Digital player and now I have one already.

The chapter breaks of the DVD title are intact and function. Furthermore, the subtites are also supported (yellow with black outline) and they look great. Fast forward and fast rewind are supported to 16X like DivX.

Some more information: using slow motion and resuming normal speed caused an audio delay. Stoping playback and then pressing play restarts the title instead of resuming from the stop point (similar to DivX playback and unlike DVD playback). Starting the title over still produced a several second pause before playback actually started. OSD button cycles Title Remain and Title Elapse only and not Chapter Reamin/Elapse too like DVD. Menu and Title buttons on the remote do not function and the hand appears in the upper, left corner indicating the functions aren't allowed. Next and Previous Chapter functions aren't as fast as DVD Video and recovery isn't exactly smooth but they do work. Unfortunately, I've yet to find a way to go directly to a specific chapter number.

I'll try a 5.1 audio disc when I've had some sleep.

I am glad I ran across this thread because even though I cycle through a hundred or so sites to keep as current as possible, I would not have made it back to the RJ-Tech site for awhile.

Thanks again Wes

Well, it looks like you guys over in North America do indeed have a stand-alone player that supports NeroDigital's core implementations...

...This is great news

Bond, will do and thanks for the test disc because I don't think I could have produced anything like it currently myself.

MP4 Test Disc Results with RJ-Tech RJ-1500DVXII

I cut and pasted results from another thread and just typed over my own results.

**video slow - video plays but looks like you hit the SLOW button on the remote but of course didn't.

\audio\mpeg-1\mp2
01-mp2_2lame_sp-divx_3ivx.mp4 won't start
02-mp2_2lame_sp-divx_mp4ui.mp4 no sound, video slow**

07-mp3-vbr_lame_sp-divx_mp4box.mp4 all ok

\audio\mpeg-4\multichannel
15-aac-lc-5.1_vbr-nero_sp-divx_3ivx.mp4 all ok!*

*My RJ-1500DVXII is currently connected to a stereo television but the test tone/channel callouts during the clip could be heard for "Front Left" and "Front Right" and more importantly, "LFE". Although this can't be a totally conclusive test without a proper 5.1 hook up, the results seem to show 5.1 support.

Thanks for posting your results Wesley,

With regard to the following file: -

\audio\mpeg-4\multichannel
15-aac-lc-5.1_vbr-nero_sp-divx_3ivx.mp4

Could you try connecting your TV to the players "rear left" and "rear right" outputs (instead of the "front left" and "front right" outputs) and try playing the file again?

With any luck you should only be able to hear the phrase "rear left" and "rear right". If you d... this means the player is capable of correctly outputting 6Ch AAC audio correctly!

Cheers

SeeMoreDigital, that's a damn good idea. I'm glad you thought of it because moving this player and connecting it to my home theater system would not be an easy task.

I will have to change the Speaker Setup Downmix option from Stereo to OFF in addition to changing the audio connections from L/R to Surround L/R. Surrounds are verified turned on.

It Worked!! I could hear Right Surround and then Left Surround in there proper places. Excellent. I'm going to be using Recode 2 and the 5.1 audio option from now on.

If CAVS doesn't release a firmware update for my DVD-103G, I may end up switching the players around as they are virtually the same player except the RJ-Tech support DivX VOD and the CAVS supports Super CD+G. Note: I tried the Nero Digital CD I made last night in the CAVS as a what the hay and it didn't recognize the file or display it in the file index.

Thanks for the confirmation... In this regard the Rjtech RJ-1500DVX offers more flexibility than the European Siemssen SCO DVD5000 player!

EDIT: Just found a photo of the European players rear connectors. Does your player have a VGA output Wesley?

Cheers

Yes, the RJ-1500DVXII has a VGA output. In fact the rear of the unit looks just like the picture you posted. I am currently using the S-Video and Mix-L/Mix-R connections. For karaoke usage, I have to use the Mix-outputs.

As a side note, my very similar CAVS DVD-103G even has a SCART output along with the VGA output. However, I just got a reply from CAVS tech support that they have no plans for a firmware update and really didn't seem to know exactly what Nero Digital was. On well I guess but I hate having to use 3 or 4 players in my home theater just to do all the things I want. Players that support as many formats as possible is my thing.

Hm... nice for you RJ-1500DVXII owners!! We, instead, get nothing for our Philips DVDP 630/642 (with the same chip-set). I hope this will encourage Philips to be nicer with their customers... who knows!
Greetings!

I told you you should have waited a bit longer before buying a player castellanos

My dear SeeMoreDigital:
You know better than me, that there is no "right" time to buy electronics. It is now or never!
(Talking generally) If you want to wait for better posibilities, you would never buy anything... and this is happening all the time in our days.
Yes, I could have waited till something better comes... then I would be till now without DVD Player and even, if I get something now, tomorrow will come something new and I'm going to be outdated anyway.
I just don't like the fact that the ESS Vibratto II chip-set can do a lot more than what Philips want to offer to their customers.
Greetings!
