PSP MPEG-4 file names are complicated, why?

http://hardware.gamespot.com/Story-ST-11721-1725-x-x-x Check that link and the filename part. Why does it have to be like that? I just don't get it why Sony went for such an intricate way for the filenames. My Sony Ericsson z1010 can play MPEG-4 Video files with MPEG-4 Audio just fine with any file name, and without *.thm files. Case in point: if a cell phone can handle various filenames, and the PSP can't, that's inferiority.
