here we go...

so far i've only tried pspvideo9 (http://pspvideo9.com) and the 1,500 and 768kbps settings @ 320x240, both of which look perfect, at least for the video i tried. worked perfectly, first try, too.

[edit]also, like most hidef TVs, (in addition to "original") it has a "normal" mode (expands to fill screen, keeping AR, "touching window from inside" edge), "zoom" (expands to fill screen, keeping AR, "touching window from outside" edge), and full screen (forcing any AR to 16:9).

i was also amused to find that Spiderman 2 was pan and scanned to 16:9 (i've always wondered when they'd start panning and scanning to that AR)[/edit]

i'm currently stuck with the default 32mb stick, but i was able to get a music video, 2 mp3s and a couple jpgs on it to putz around it. the funny thing is that the first thing i've ordered for it is a 512mb memory stick duo. not sure if i want to plunk down the $40 for Wipeout Pure yet. this video stuff is too cool

the only downside is that while QT6.5 seems to be able to play the MP4 created from PSPVideo9 perfectly fine, MPC seems to drift out of sync if i skip around in the track.

has anyone tried to use audio at freqs better than 24khz?

also, i noticed a few artifacts while watching Spiderman 2 (ugh, what a forgetable movie IMO. i'd have preferred Identity (which i own on DVD already) or even Final Fantasy Spirits Within) ... it showed up in static areas of backgrounds in the way of flickering blocks at least once... the demo disc also had some chroma(?) artifacts, but these can be attributed to the 4:2:0 codec, i think (see the redhead's hair in the Ape Escape trailer).

but for sheer novelty of having a video player with expandable memory, an mp3 player (love the puck attached to the headphones, even tho it feels light, cheap and fragile), and hand held console system all in one sharp package, it's one sekzi machine. and i haven't raised an eyebrow since the gameboy, really.

anyone else?

like options?

audio: english, french
subs: english, off

menu seems to be realtime 2D over a video background

Same goes for audio... Is it AAC-LC or HE?

I guess, I'm assuming that these UMD disc's can be removed from their caddy and spun in a PC

You can't. Their direction of spinning is different than those of cd's and dvd's.
