Some Qtns Related to Mpeg-4 & Divx Playback in Players

Hi All

Note:- All qtns are related to hardware players

1.> Some players have support for Mpeg4 Playback
- What does that exaclty mean
".mp4 container with (Divx,Xvid,3ivx) Video Stream and (Mp3,AAC) Audio Stream"
Or
".mp4 File that we encode using QuickTime Pro"

As Both .mp4 files are diffrent.

- How to place these .mp4 on a CD so that they are playable on a DVD
Player having support for Mpeg-4 Playback.

2.> Some Players have Divx Playback Support
- Does that mean it can play Divx Video with MP3,Ac3 5.1 Audio in AVI Container
- Which Version of Divx Codec 5.X does it support
- Can it also play Xvid Encoded Video Streams with Mp3,Ac3 5.1 Audio.
- How to Burn these Avi Files as DATA CD or some procedure is there
so that they can be read by Divx Supported DVD Players

Plz help me in clearing my Doubts

Hi Video Master,

bond (one of our Mpeg4 forum moderators) has written some Q & A's regarding some of the subjects you are asking....

Here's one about the Mpeg4 codec/streams
Here's one about the MP4 container

That said, it's vital you understand the very basics...

To create Mpeg4 video streams, you will need to install one or more Mpeg4 video codecs, such as, XviD, DivX, 3ivX etc.

To create MP3 audio streams, you may need to install an MP3 audio codec, such as, Lame, Radium etc.

You will also need to install an encoding application (aka: front end), such as Gordian Knot, Virtual DubMod, MPEG Mediator, etc. Also, some of these encoding applications will give you the ability to generate an MP3 audio stream at the same time.

The resulting Mpeg4/MP3 encode will be placed within an AVI container.

All Mpeg4 stand-alone players can spin Mpeg4/MP3 encodes in AVI. However, there's a catch, because the Mpeg4 video codec is divided into two profiles. Simple Profile (aka: SP) and Advanced Simple Profile (aka: ASP).

So when I said "all Mpeg4 stand-alone players can spin Mpeg4/MP3 encodes in AVI", this relates to Mpeg4 SP/MP3 encodes!

Unfortunately, not every Mpeg4 stand-alone player will be able to play Mpeg4 ASP/MP3 encodes... and this is where many people begin to get confused.

To confuse you more, with the aid of muxing tools, such as AVI-mux, it's possible to include say, DolbyDigital (aka: AC3) audio streams within your AVI encode.

It's also possible to mux Mpeg4 video and MP3 audio streams into the MP4 container but very few stand-alone players support this container at the moment!

The above is just an very brief explanation as to "what's what". So please read the Q&A's posted all over the forum.

Cheers

SeeMoreDigital firstly thanks m8 for ur simple explanation.

So what i understood from this is
- Mpeg4 Playback in Hardware players means playback of
(3ivx , Xvid , Divx) Video Stream any version of Codec +
(Mp3) Audio Stream(Is it CBR or VBR Mp3) in AVI container.

Mpeg-4 Playback means Playing (3ivx,Xvid,Divx + MP3)AVI file.

Is it.
Am i correct.

So there is a Hardware Player
1.> Samsung DVD-HD748
Link:- http://www.samsung.com/in/products/d.../dvd_hd748.asp
It Mentions "DVD / VCD / SVCD / ACD / MP3 / WMA / JPEG / MPEG4 / DVD Audio / SACD Playback"

2.> Samsung DVD-P548K
Link:- http://www.samsung.com/in/products/d.../dvd_p548k.asp
It Mentions "DVD / VCD / SVCD / ACD / MP3 / WMA / JPEG / MPEG4 Playback"

Will the 2 be able to play the above mentioned AVI file as it has Mpeg4 Support.

Plz help me man only confirm this , my problem is solved.

I know encoding the AVI file and all from DVD n all that stuff.

All i want to confirm is that "Will the AVI file be playble in
in the 2 mentioned Players from samsung".

Yep!

It can also mean Mpeg4+AC3 in AVI or even Mpeg4+MP3+AC3 in AVI

Yep, they should do!

All you need do now is check whether the players support Mpeg4 ASP features (such as B-VOP, Qpel and GMC), should you ever decide to encode with them!

Cheers

Yep, this combination should work fine!

Another thing to take into account is for your Mpeg4+MP3/AC3 in AVI encodes not to exceed 2GB... As most, if not all current stand-alone players can't cope with this implementation!

Cheers

The standalones can't manage avi files bigger than 2GB... or at least, I did find one yet that can do that.
I do not know other burnning programs, I use all the time NERO 6, I remember that I was able to burn a 3GB avi file on a normal DVD-ROM ISO Standard 9660, but after I make the Nero update, I couldn't do that anymore.
Now I can burn a 2GB bigger avi file in a DVD-ROM (UDF) format... but of course, only possible to see it into a computer.
Greetings!
