Flashed Neuneo with Zensonics 1.1 f/w
Just like to report that flashing my Neuneo DVD player with Zensonics Z300 1.1 firmware was successful, and I cannot spot any side effects. Player did not die on my after the flash, the remote control still works (same IR codes). The font on the "Explorer" menus look slightly different, and it's added a couple of extra settings within "Quality" sub menu- sharpness, gamma & luma. Icons are slightly different too, and now the "Zoom" OSD disappears after a couple of seconds. On-screen timer is still there though.
The Neueno model is the model that looks identical to the Zensonics Z300. Faceplate, and internal design (MTK 1389 GE chipset) are identical. When it comes up with "upgrading" DO NOT SWITCH the player off. Leave it until the player closes the drawer, and resets itself. The Zensonics splash screen should now replace Neueno :-D It hasn't fixed the incompatible discs playback though (Monsters Inc R1, NYPD Blue S1,D5) as the unit attempts to load menu system, then stops. Both Neuneo & Zensonic firmware have problems with these discs. I am not responsible if yours dies though. |

It's still working
as for the upgrade CD. Select. No multi-session Finalize disc (close) Disc at once Write at minimum speed there should be a MTK.BIN file on the CD. Press Play to confirm flash. It reads the file within 1 second, then ejects i, then the re-flashing is done (takes about 2 minutes). Do not remove plug/disconnect mains supply whilst flashing. Unless you want a dead machine (check Zensonics forum for a few daft people who did) You should notice straight away as it'll reboot with the different splash screen. One useful features that's added is that you scan cycle through video outputs by pressing PSCAN button. Useful if you're using VGA and you reset the unit. Just press PSCAN a couple of times to enable VGA. Oh one thing I noticed; with the neuneo firmware it usually crashed when switching it from standby to on & play disc (switches on, but doesn't start to play the disc) since flashing to Zensonic firmware it's not had this problem. Everytime now standby to on it's successfully played the disc. Last edited by Mr Whippy; 2nd September 2004 at 00:48. |

Thanks Mr Whippy!
Mr Whippy,
You are a fountain of help. Us poor souls that bought the dearly departed and obsolete NeuNeo need all the help we can get. First, they sold us a unit that wasn't what they claimed. Then they had the utter bad manners to take it of the market. Nary an update. The Zensonic update is the first glimmer of hope I've seen. Thanks!
