That's very interesting. Especially in lights of law suit again ESS ealier. I cannot recall any other company, but ones providing mpeg4 solution being attacked by MPAA. Coincidence ?

Hi-

Although this may be an attempt to outlaw players that can play MPEG-4 (although I don't really think so), the suit is being brought because the chipset makers make it possible for the player manufacturers (like Lite-On) to implement upscaling over Component, something not allowed by their license. Over DVI/HDMI is OK, Component is not. Here's another article about it:

It seems to be a bogus lawsuit. Who in their right mind wants to capture upscaled analog 480p, when they can rip the digital DVD? What I'm much more worried about is that it may slow the introduction of next-gen DVD/MPEG-4 players.
