Standalone DivX_Player+Divx.avi+Subtitles?

Hi!
Its possible that some Standalone DivX_Player play DivX and subtitles?
If so which one do this job?

I am trying to do the same.

Now, considering that these devices are 'DivX certified', certification according to the web site invovles the use/playability of subtitles.

However, it is more than a bit ominous as to what EXACTLY this entails.

What is DivX certification?

As long as I do not know this it would appear to me as if buying a player with or without certification is equally reliable in terms of reproduction of material.

I don't think divx certification includes subtitles, somebody correct me if I'm wrong. Divx certified means it's certified for DivX playback, and nothing else.
The DX 3220 claims to be able to play multiple subtitles, but I think it's through a firmware upgrade which is very hard to get the customer service to do for you...Ring them and find out

I can't find it at the site right now (maybe it is no longer there( but there was a tongue-in-cheek explanation of what DivX certification involved. It mentioned subtitles but in no particular format.

Since it was not entirely to be meant seriously (but gave me some indications of what was done), I had questions.

The page you point to does not mention subtitles so it is probably safe to assume that it is not part of the spec.

My player manual mentions subtitles (RJ1500) but it might only refer to DVD subtitles or VCD or I-do-not-know-what. The player is excellent but the manual one of the worst I have seen.

This question would fit better in the hardware forum, but I can recommend the XBox for the job. The XBox Media Center can play all DivX and XviD (also with Qpel and GMC) content and also other formats and container formats (as OGM and Matroska) as well. Subtitles are no problem whatsoever. Basically, you can play the same stuff as with MPlayer.

The minor drawback is that you might need to mod your xbox. But I read once that Microsoft intended to put the software as a title too (link)

I know that my philips DVP720Sa plays .srt and .sub (microDVD?) subtitles, and you can switch between multiple subtitle files, named "moviename".0x.srt with x the number of the subtitle, possible, 2 character language indications might work too, haven't tried that yet. The player only allows 30 chars per line, and 60 per time-label but this program modifies the srt file for DX3220 and DVP720SA so it fits within those limitations.

ESS based players like the philips 737 (Vibratto 2?) and the DVP642/630 (other chipset?) are supposed to support divx srt subtitles better, but you'll have to ask owners of this player for their experiences, I haven't used one.

It would seem this requires a PC to drive. The Xbox seems to merely perform some sort of slave function.

Hm,

what chipset is this (couldn't readily find on the net and doesn't seem to be produced anymore). I run a Vibratto chipset (apparently the original).

Yeah, I believe I read it in a press release some time ago, that philips would be using the Vibratto 2 chipsets in its new products. Press releases are not really rich in information. However, it seems that the 737 is equiped with the original and the new players with the Vibratto 2. Checked some other forums for it, sorry for the mistake.

I have no idea on the difference from head.

No, it doesn't, why would you think that? It's a stand-alone solution. It has the option though to play content from a network, but it can as well play from CDR, DVDR or build-in harddisk.
