Well maximum resolution is 720x576 for pal and 720x480 for ntsc, bitrate can go up to 4mbits/sec maybe more.

i forgot something. Do I have to include any files in addition to the avi? Is it possible to create chapters on the avi movie and external and selectable subtitles? What about menus?

One more question, if i make a divx avi file of 9 hours and become about 4GB, can i write it on dvd disc or it has to be on cd so that it can be recognized by the player?

thanks.

Menues and chapters are not possible with current players.
Many player support subtitles, but how to include them may differ from player to player. Some only support moviename.srt, some let you select the subtitle file no matter what name.
Current players are also limited to max 2GB filesize, so you have to split larger files.
