@Sagittaire
for which bitrate this is optimized and tested ? and if i see your settings you don't really care about the Speed/Quality factor do you ? So i guess you allready tried my Extra_Detail Profile Test Build and proved that i'ts bad then please write in my thread and say so. Takeing testuser for such a important step in enhanceing Situation based Encoding efficiency is bad of you imho and im shocked about this behaveiour of you

@Cruncher: Not everyone still uses a Celeron 1.2GHz.
I use similar settings as the original poster (well, I don't use AQ anyone 'cuz of that thread a week or so ago that trashed it) and I'm a little leery of GMC 'cuz I don't know what it's good for or if it really helps, but actually I use identical settings otherwise. I stick to quants 2 & 3 and maybe some 4 (80% compressibility result). It's not accurate to talk bitrates when what really matters is quants IMO. I also keep the keep much of the original resolution, downscaling to no less than 640 resolution horizontally. |

@Sagittaire:...
Thanks for advertising those settings that were recommended to you (after your initial settings had become the object of heavy criticism). @JohnMK: Nobody 'trashed' AQ - AQ is a great thing. Some blocks in a dark-blue background represent a 'problem sample', they don't render it invalid. I would also hate to see creators of XviD-profiles/matrices/whatever starting to quarrel about the quality or merits of each other's work. Please don't do that. Edit: And please, everyone, don't make a downloadable registry-entry if it would be sufficient to just list those settings. Especially if they are so close to the standard-settings as these. Posting a new thread with a downloadable profile sounds like a contribution at first but on second thoughts it isn't much different from posting something like 'hey, try my new and cool XviD settings'... As Cruncher said, something like that would have to be justified by tests or something - in this case though Sagittaire just posted settings that had been recommended in diverse threads over and over (they're my standard settings btw, except for packed bitstream).

Oops...
a week or so ago and a dark-blue background... I think it's related to my thread (?)...
Well, Teegedeck is right: Adaptive Quantization is not rendered invalid by such a test... I'm embarassed to see some people draw such a conclusion... I didn't mean it! I wouldn't like my test to be badly interpreted, JohnMK. Read again the thread, I did not say "AQ is bullshit". On the contrary, I think it is a powerful option... and I persist in using it. Yours, Jon

My apologies. I got that impression from reading about registry tweaks in just about every thread I looked at about RV (and I think it's mentioned the codec comparison too).
(And a second apology for dragging RV into the xvid forum a second time). |
