The first pass function on a twopass encode is only to reach a target file size ?

The first pass function on a twopass encode is only to reach a target file size ? Or it increase the encode quality too ?

Multiple passes are always only there for better bit-distribution in the final pass (this goes for DivX and CCE etc., too).

1st pass...

Encodes @ fixed quantizer and writes info about the videos complexity to a log !!!


2nd pass...

Calculates the bitrate distribution from the log to get your desired filesize then !!!
