Video Sample Size

1st of all i'm a noob at all of this encoding lark

and my problem happens with robot4rip or autogk and the xvid codec. The Video Sample Size is always 12 bit, can't find anywhere 2 change this. The final avi's r brilliant on my pc but have a corrupted picture on my Yamada dvd player. Having searched the forum 4 a answer thought posting this was my best option. Thx in advance

Afaik Yamada players can't handle latest XviDs (starting from summer builds). This has nothing to do with "Video Sample Size" (which I'm not sure I understand) but just plain lack of support of XviD codec.
(you should bug your hardware vendor for an updated firmware which fixes the issue, or just use DivX codec)

I have a Yamada DVX-6100 which plays all the Xvid avi's i have apart from the 1s i have made myself. It plays this

but this doesn't

well, this setting is not available anywhere I know. I know lots of other cases when XviD produced by current GK/AutoGK cannot be played on that player and think this cannot be solved unless updated firmware is available or you get XviD codec which is a year old...

Well thx. im a noob so i have no idea

but autogk and r4r always produce my Xvids with 12 bit Video Sample Size and i have searched 4 a month now trying 2 find an answer, and i use the codec supplied with the programme XviD-24062003-1. Mayb this is why they wont play on the Yamada

First, for perspective, I would like to say that I think that AutoGK is a great program and that len0x is doing an amazing job developing it so fast.

On to the mystery; this thread touches on a question for which I have been searching for an explanation for months... And it relates directly to AutoGK.

I have found that when using AutoGK to encode into XviD, that the video sample size (I interpret this as the precision with which the colors are encoded) is always 12bit, with no option to choose 24 bit. When encoding into DivX, it is alwasy 24bit.
I can see the difference in the color quality quite readily (most noticable in color gradient areas like shadows under peoples chins looking like flat gray areas), and I find it to be rather distracting to the point that I much prefer the 24bit DivX encodings of the same movie, same file size, even though there is less details. The 24bit sample size just makes for richer looking colors (try switching your desktop display settings to get a quick demo for yourself).
I have also found that when encoding into XviD using FU, that it produces 24bit XviD files, and the colors look much better. I have been unable to determine the reason for this and this thread is the closest thing I have seen yet to a direct discussion of it.

I do not intend for this to be a gripe about AutoGK, the program is great, I have just been unable to determine (after searching high and low in the forum and elsewhere) whether this phenomenon is the result of a limitation of the XviD codec (although not likely considering the FU results), a design choice by len0x to make the encoding faster (hard to determine based on this thread, but he did say that he made some quality based decisions to speed up encoding), or some other factor (political?). Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated.

I also am new to posting here (although I have been lurking for about a year), so I appologize in advance if this post is misinformed or in bad taste. It seems to me an issue that stands the chance of improving the encoding quality obtained with AutoGK.

Lol. That's a placebo effect right there. @mevering and Ramen, All MPEG-4 codecs, including DivX and Xvid, use YV12 colorspace and thus 12 bit color. When explorer shows these as 24 bit it is a mistake. Please use the search this has been covered quite a bit.
