Medion Divx Player for € 79,99

Hi, does anyone have any idea what is inside this player? Not even a product number is written on Aldi's page. Does it maybe have the Mediatec 1389xy Chip? If anyone knows anything about it please respond!

thx for your help

greetz

As far as I've heard it's similar to the Gran Prix and the Lifetec, as it's called in France (even has the same remote control as my Gran Prix).
Here's the link:
inside.http://www.aldi-essen.de/OFFER_D/OFFER_52/OFF03.HTM

So yes it does have the MTK Chip

I wonder if this player will make it into UK stores?

Well thx monty,

but who found out and how, that this player IS the same than Grand Prix and lifetec? Anyone must have had this player in his/her hands. Cause from the outside they all look pretty much the same.

Nobody can say for sure until it is opened, but everything indicates that it is a mediatek player.

-same design (Gran Prix, Lifetec, Medion)
-same remote (no other player I've seen has the shitty remote)
-the player has been on sale in denmark last week
-Cruncher mentions it in another thread about mtk chipped players, even with technical specs
-Medion and Lifetec are more or less the same brand/manufacturer/distibutor/whatever... just type in google Medion and Lifetec and you'll see what i mean

Seems to be an OEM model

If you want a player go and get it, and if it isn't the same player, simply take it back (should be possible up to 4 weeks after purchase).

Medion is quite good at firmware updates, from what I have heard.
And the download section on their website is rather large too.
Ogg and subs would really be great....

Medion is Medion, its a well known German Firm producing lots of stuff for Aldi like all the Aldi Computers see http://www.medion.de/

So I think they won't ruin their good name

Other than Tevion, Tevion is a Trade Mark from Aldi Konzern and you never know who produced and sold that stuff to Aldi, it could be Medion, but it could also be Siemssen or others.

Actually the Tevion player which was discussed just a few weeks ago was by siemssen (good guess)
Or at least they are the ones held responsible by the mob ;-)

I got one of theese for 87 euros yesterday.. hundreds of Danes were queing hours before the store opened wednesday morning.. In that Aldi shop I got mine in there were only 10 players that were gone in less than 60 seconds..

As talked about in french forum about the Lifetec, the AV-synch is bad, latest posts suggest it might be when the mp3 audio is 44khz, solution is to re-encode to 48khz with Virtual Dub.. I wonder what kind of a weird problem this is.. I should sit down with gspot on my computer and check out what format all those files I tried that go out of synch are in (unlike the KiSS players, I cannot see it is possible to get any information about the DivX files on the player itself with anykind of info button on the remote).

Not sure what is going on here: http://www.gowellent.com/Divx.htm maybe they are the chineese people doing all those different players with same interior and different facade and logos..
according to their website, 3000 factory workers in Dongguan city and HuiZhou city of GuangDong factories are currently mass-producing this DivX Pro stuff.. So maybe firmware upgrades will come out of that chineese factory also..

Also my Medion has quite a bunch of freezes.. dunno for sure if it is caused by fast forwarding, divx 3.11, bitrate or cd/dvd media low quality (a few times some media took quite long time to load..).. You really can't base anything on my experience cause I haven't been able to verify codecs and stuff seriously.. I am sure I have alot of poorly encoded video in those that failed with synch and freezing.. and I can see alot of other people are talking about it in forums..

I haven't had any real freezes up to now on my Gran Prix, except of course when using xvid with gmc, and no real av sync problems. The only thing I noticed once or twice (and that was on low quality encodes with low bitrate) was that the video speeds up really fast and the sound just hangs behind, but this problem is corrected after just 3 or 4 seconds or by pressing the pause button. don't know why that is.
Maybe you should put some pressure on medion for a new firmware (which should then be compatible to the GranPrix ).

cheers, monty

jep encountered 3x times in a 100 min encode unsync problems for some seconds, but it looks really like an audio muxin problem where the player when encountering is getting out of sync.

My problem is that sometimes the video sometimes speeds up, sound runs on at normal speed, but if I rewind and try the same passage again, all works fine. Is that about the same problem you encountered? Maybe it is the overheating Problem, that was discussed on the french board, because it seems to me that this happens randomly.

ok i found a little more about the Unsync problem many people expieriencing at least for mp3 the problems only occoured for films that where muxed with CBR as Mp3 there the unsync problems started from the beginning of playing the whole time it was unsync muxing the cbr track with different methods in avimux and vdubmod didn't helped only transcoding to ABR (VBR) made it sync. Still the problem with the Speedup/Slowdown exists somehow i doubt that this is a problem of the Firmware and i doubt it can be fixed by a Firmware update most probably the Elta update only fixed the CBR mode problem but those Speedup/Slowdown problem looks definatly like a overheating problem it occours random thats the greatest evidence.

Merry Xmas to you all

Ced in this forum shows a picture of a installed processor cooler which should not be difficult to install..

And which would solve the audio/video synch (?!?)

http://www.cedsweb.com/forums/index....indpost&p=3338

I expect, I hope the audio/video synch (with 44khz CBR mp3) is gonna be fixed with firmware upgrade.
