The best DVD player for DivX ?
Well I'm gona buy my first dvdplayer ( standalone ) ever, and the reason is they can handel DivX now ... I should have buyed one ages ago ,but now it has droped to a price that is OK ... So ... wich to choose ? I have been thinking for a Kiss DP-450 ore a DP-500 with it's LAN support , but there are some new player out like the LiteOn, but the problem here is that I don't realy know anything about the other players ... I have read abit in this forum, but I can sit here the whole day , so I'll just ask you all ... what I realy need is a dvdplayer that can handel subtitels .. the support for more then 1 audiostream is not that important for me ... I need the subtitels more since I have some japanise cartoonmovies and some france movies like Taxi
just love that movie ... so can you pepz that have dvdplayers with divx support tell me what to buy ? as I stand now I would go for the Kiss DP 450 ore 500 , but I don't know if handels subtitels

Kiss DP-450 = Acceptable standalone... "Acceptable" means "BAD" for me
!XBox + Modchip = Good standalone... And you can also play games with it !Desktop PC with TV-Out = Perfect stanalone... Not cheap, but... !

Hi SMD-
OK, you get an amp, not that it would be too useful for too many people. Most people with a surround sound system would already have their own amp. I did notice that it decodes the AC3, but missed the receiver being included. Oh yeah, now I see it: the first DVD receiver in the world with DivX and PAL/NTSC progressive scan I still don't see any mention of speakers being included, though. Just something about it being designed for use with their speakers: Jamo DVR 50 has been specially designed to match our Aesthetic products - in design, sound and operation. This means that a combination of the DVR 50 and the Aesthetic range produces a complete and harmonious solution that is easy to use. It may be the first DVD Receiver with DivX and PAL/NTSC Progressive Scan, but it's not the first DVD/MPEG4 Player with PAL/NTSC Progressive Scan capability: https://www2.setssl.com/~hivizone/dv...main_frame.htm Maybe the next time I feel money burning a hole in my pocket I'll check it out.

That's better!
The specs on the Momitsu DVD-V880 look good. I like the idea of having a DVI output. I've been thinking of making a little device that utilizes / produces this off my Xcard using the cards onboard 'digital' connection strip. It's a shame that there is no PAL (576p) progressive output. However according to info on Sigma's forum PAL progressive output is possible from non-macrovision DVD's/files. On a different note. I've tried generating some Hi-def DivX test encodes at 1440x816 (1920x1080 forget it!) but the DivX chip can't handle them. It can scale out to such sizes but can't input! Shame.

In reference to the Jamo mp4 player.
Kiss helped out in the developent of this player but.. Kiss are going to release the dp-470 which includes a 5.1 amplifier, exactly the same as the jamo. You can bet it will be a bit cheaper too

zag2me,
I have'nt managed to get my hands on a Kiss player. Can I ask if you, or any other people on the gooddvdstuff forum have tried spinning Mpeg4/DivX files that have been encoded with a frame size above 720x576? Say. 1920x1080, 1440x816, 1280x720 or even 1024x576! Cheers

I think there will be an alternative, the
Xoro HSD 400 It's gonna be good in my opinion and it has an another chipset, not the SigmaDesign, but an ESS Decoderchipset. The player only costs 119€ what will be the same in dollars. But if I see the included DD-Decoder, I ask me if the qualitily is that good for this price...

I have the liteon Phomaster LVD-2001 with the latest firmware. All my divx3.11 content plays, but there is heavy stuttering in high motion scenes.
Can anybody else confirm this with there Sigma-based chipset?

I can only speak for my Yamada DVX6100 but a 720x576 4000kBit Low Motion file played perfect on it, just like DivX 5.
But dont buy it yet, as said above theres almost no zooming for DivX files until now, that means everything below 704xXXX will have black borders all around. Only a few 4:3 resolution are zoomed to fullscreen (352x288,360x270,dont know) Also DivX5 bframes+gmc is supportet, but not for Xvid. |
