noise cancellation?
unfortunately I live with some very loud roomates. Is there anyway, I can get some kind of noise cancellation working? Either a .mp3 of white noise, or something more complicated using my mic to pic up the sound and output that matches to cancel it out. I have tried to search and all I can find is a ton of reading material or expensive systems. any ideas?

I am also interrested in that. (Becouse I *make* much noise, and I want to give a program like that to my fellow students.
)But I think it will not work, for this reasons. 1 Stereo sound is difficult to cancel out ==> u need 2 microfones for that, so 2 soundcards. (or special microfone setup). 2 It is *local*, so i.e. you have to sit between your 2 speakers, for noise cancellation. (Which will never work for 100%, only diminished sound.) Best solution (I think), is to buy a special headphone which does noise *Reduction* by itself. I think I once saw a headphone like that, from the company Sennheiser. The size is like a normal walkman-headphone. (Unless you want to buy the "Airplane"-model )Drawbacks; (Except maybe the prize ... dunno.) is that you have to walk around with a walkman all day. (No cassettes needed). Maybe a good thing for studying ???

Hi evilhomer,
heres some plans 4 an active-noise reduction system for headphones: -> http://www.headwize.com/projects/noise_prj.htm i'm looking at it to try and adapt it to use inside my pc (...no idea if this will work tho, but i hate pc noise so ill go to extremes ).This aint no beginner electronics project tho. I have it on good authority that this anr system works very well in a headphone setup tho.

Noise cancelling or noise reduction headphones?
I have been looking into getting some nice headphones as well. I'm not sure which type is best for me. Each type has pros and cons. Can anyone give me advice on which to get or they have a pair of either?
Something like this from Amazon is a noise cancelling headphone: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...72282&v=glance Or something like these which are noise reduction or isolation (?) headphones: http://www.quietheadphones.com/ Thanks for any input. |
