DVD Player only plays half picture (DVD-SVCD)
I have tried to put 4 episodes of SVCD one DVD+R but with no luck.
I have followed a guide showing demuxing audio/video with TmpEnc and the use ifoedit, and last vobedit. I burned them on a DVD+R. but then starts the problem. My Pioneer 350 only shows half the picture. What can I do to sort this out? I know the Pioneer can play Dvd+r and SVCD....

Pioneer players don't like non-standard resolutions. They can play mpeg 2 (DVD/SVCD) as 352x480 or 480x480 but can not play mpeg 1 at 352x480 (you get half-screen effect). The same goes for DVD at 480x480, it will play but the non-standard resolution will cause it to play half screen.

The old SVCD->DVDR method produces good results on 90%+ of cases. It is however a non DVD spec compliant DVD you have as a result. So as mordant says Pioneer fall into the other 10%. The only options you have is do a proper re-encode to 353 or 720 horzontal resolution or get a cheap player (APEX or similar) for such DVDs.

Yesterday I tried to enter my project into Ulead DMF2 but this should take over 40 hours of encoding the video....so I just forget it.
As You all can see I have the problem that I have the Pioneer that will only play half the picture if I burn a DVD-SVCD. Now I have seen that SVCD2DVDmpg+ is released. Will this proggie help me out or do I have to encode them all (I have LOTR,4cd,SVCD) with TMPenc in "real" DVD-resolution and then author it with, for example Ulead DMF2? I have almost read everything I can get my hands on but I have to say I'm about to throw everything out the window. So...pls help me out

SVCD2DVDmpg+ will give you a authored dvd folder (video_ts) in one click. The resulant burnt dvd is still a DVD-SVCD. So you will have the same issue.

I will then try the SVCD2DVDMPG+ and see if I can get it to run on some buddies players. I can buy a new one for about Ģ60 here in Sweden.
Many thanx for the help.

There is a solution to this problem but it's a time intensive one.
You can add pan and scan info using a program called mpegrepair. What you do is add the pan and scan tags at 480 x 480 and then select pan and scan on your dvd player when playing them back. Pioneer players will then display the picture properly. However on my lowley Duron 800 mpegrepair only does this in approximately real time. So not a great option if you've got loads of svcd's you want to put on dvdr. But if it's only the occasional one then it's not a problem. |

....and my reply is....can I use mpegrepair on already created vobīs?
I have a DVD+R I cannot play but maybe this solution does it.... Damn...I had almost lost my hope but now it starts all over again

Why not change a better video player?
Apparently "Windvd Platinum 4.5.11.7" is the first choice for the majority of professional "fever fans', which you can download from the free down load area of removed due to the dodgyness of the site Althoughas above is not the real url, but get rid of all numbers from it, you will be able to find the correct one^_^ Last edited by auenf; 23rd May 2003 at 15:24. |

@Potatoking:
I know you solved your problem but i wonder if you could test a sample from my application to see if it addresses your pioneer issue. See: http://www.svcd2dvdmpg.com/SVCD2DVDMPG/Samples.aspx from that page.... Quote:
