DVD Player in VB that strips macrovision
I'm looking to create a simple dvd player program in visual basic that strips macrovision? Any ideas on how to get started? Do i just call windows api functions and play the vob files or do i hove to use a decoder?
DVDx 1.8 works well with my ATI all in wonder 8500dv but there are no stop, pause or fullscreen options. It's the only program that seems to work. So if anyone knows how this program is setup, please help. Joel |

Why not use a macrovision killer app with one of the retail soft players?
http://ookami.iwebland.com/elist/macrovision.html Or you could copy the DVD with e.g. Smartripper (look for the option disable Macrovision or similar) and play it from HD. When I had the ATI Rage 128, I used the ATI Macro tool... You could do a google.com search on macrovision disabling for your ATI card. Cheers, Mijo.

Yes...thank you Ookami. I know i can do this but i origanlly thought it would just be easyer to get a soft dvd player that is macrovision free. None of the software dvd players seem to work for me. But now i relize that it's easyer and it only takes about five minutes to use Smartripper and play from my HD.
During my search for this play i have become interested in DVD development. I mainly use VB 6 and my C++ is beyond shabby. I've also came across your guys exellent source code page, but since i'm not very good w/ C++ it's dificult to understand the process of demacrovision, demuxing, reading ifo file, etc. I was wondering if any one out there could direct me to Visual basic recources, guides on dvd develpoment, and or some plugin code or dll (for VB)? I want to know how to get started? Sorry for the such novice questions. I just don't know where to start? joel |

about the tool
OH.. about the ATI Macro tool that just remames the atitvo32.dll file. It doesn't work for me. I'm using ATI DVD player 7.6 and the ATI all in wonder 8500dv. You think they have improved there macrovision techniques since the ATI rage 128?

If you want to watch DVDs on TV without Macrovision, you should try DVDIdle 1.21.
It has Macrovision-Free feature, which supports PowerDVD 3.0/XP, WinDVD 2000/3.0, CinePlayer 4.0 and other player softwares. No matter what video card you use, DVDIdle can disable Macrovision for you. http://www.dvdidle.com/

If I was a moderator in this forum i'd cick your butt for that shameless plug. DVDIdle just caches the disc surely, which is pretty much what a ripper does. If it was free, I would be bothered at all, but you blatently work for them or something and I think advertising in the manner is out of order. Go 'plug' somewhere else.
Removing macrovision is easy, you just change 1 byte in program stream 2....thats it.

DVDIdle didn't work for me
As for DVDIdle, it didn't work for me (i used powereDVD). I have no idea why since all it does is cache the movie.
And Fengtao: Don't you think i'v seen your blatant advertising elsewhere on this forum. Lightning UK: I'm interested in more info on removing this macrovision byte from the stream. Also if your have an experience in VB..is it posible to set up a stream where the program stream can be run through the demacrovision code and then to the video overlay/output (or whatever the best way to show it on the screen). Oh by the way, great program..i got it. Streets97f Streets97f@hotmail.com |

DVD Decrypter is a great software, I like it.
But, it's not for normal user, it's for expert. Normal user want to watch DVDs easily. For example, if someone want to watch DVDs on TV without Macrovision, should he rip the whole DVD to HDD at first? How many times it costs? How easy to do it? DVDIdle is an easy-to-use tool to help people watch DVDs easily.

Yeah, I purposley made it really hard to use so that everyone used a different ripper. I mean, whats the point in making something that people enjoy using!!!! LOL
You should see the new version, Ive actually hidden the decrypt button so the program is now as good as useless! @fengtao: Clear out your signature :-) Like I said, if it was free, I wouldnt care...but its not.
