Adjusting NTSC-J Black Levels
First off, I want to be clear that I'm a newbie to all this and have just started learning how to use virtualdub, avisynth, and all other related software's.
I have a Japanese DVD-Video that I want to adjust the NTSC-J black level to be consistent with standard NTSC-US video and wanted to know (or at least be sure of) what would be the proper way of doing it. Also, are there any other standards to NTSC-J besides increased black levels ? (One other thing, if there's already a thread or article that explains this please direct me to it.) |

You shouldn't have to adjust anything for proper level on a DVD. NTSC-J is purely analog, and only matters when sending analog signals (such as from a Japanese DVD player to an American TV, which would be too dark). The DVD encodings are identical, including the same 16-235 light levels.
This might not be the case for homemade video, though; in that case you should check the histogram and make sure it's within 16-235. |
