MeGUI One Click - no audio when using AVISource

Hi,

I noticed that when I try to use the One Click encode function and select to open AVI files with AVISource (not FFMS) that no audio is being encoded, is this normal?

When using one click to encode files that are opened with FFMS, two avisynth scripts are created (one for video, and one for audio), and then each is encoded. But when using AVISource one script is created, which would be fine... but then the file should be used twice, first time to encode the video, second time to encode the audio no?

Cheers

I do not have Haali Spiltter installed currently, and I disable creating intermediate mkv file... but I figured this should not be a problem.

You have to enable it:
Code:
--[Information] [3/30/2014 6:52:14 PM] Input file will not be demuxed as intermediate MKV is disabled. Therefore some OneClick features will be disabled.
--[Warning] [3/30/2014 6:52:14 PM] Internal audio track 1 will be skipped as AVISOURCE is going to be used

Thanks... but I did that and still the same. I also installed Haali Splitter, but still the same.

I think this has something to do with it...

As a workaround I am download and used AVISynth Batch Scripter to batch create the scripts for all my videos... then loaded them as a Folder in one click and that works.

I tested it as well with one of my AVIs and it worked as expected. Please enable the intermediate mkv file and post the full log (including the version information at the top).

Thanks.... tried it again with MKV intermediate enabled, and it does not work at all that way. I believe it is because of the codec used in the AVI (CineForm).

Please update to the latest development build (2487) and try it again. Update also mkvmerge to the current version. Everything will be provided by the development update server.

Ok I think I might see some things that are causing problems...

When I use the mkv intermediate file I get this error when it is trying to extract the tracks from the said created mkv file...

Quote:
Bitstream parsing for track 1 failed
This is the video track. Could be because of the format of the video, I have tried CineForm and MS Video (I dont have a lot of codecs installed for AVI files to test with). But that would make the job fail for sure.

The other problem is when I am not using the intermediate mkv file. The AVISource that is created for the script turns off the audio...

Quote:
[NoImage] AVISource("C:\Users\Local User\Desktop\Test Encodes\Chapter 02 - Part 1 SI-Drums.avi", audio=false).AssumeFPS(30000,1001)
This should be an option (to turn off the audio or not), no?

Cheers

From what you say, you are encoding to various AVI codecs and passing the AVI for further encoding or muxing to MKV. What is the actual format of your source and why are you choosing these ancient obsolete codecs to encode into AVI? Sorry if I missed the point.

I only tested the MS Video one because that is the only other codec I have (well I have DV). I typical render to CineForm AVIs from Sony Vegas.

Thanks for the clarification. May I ask what is the desired target format?

If you want to export from Sony to (say) AVC in MKV, then you could export in some lossless codec like HUFFYUV and then encode to AVC using x264, etc. The more you tell us about what you are starting with and what you want to end up with, the better we can help you. Putting video using old VFW codecs intended for AVI inside MKV is not a good idea, I think most would agree.

Yes the final video will be encoded with x264 (web delivery) .

The codec in the AVI is not an old one... CineForm is a high quality intermediate codec used in professional video applications. I believe it is currently in the process of becoming a SMTPE standard (VC-5). http://cineform.com/ (the company was recently purchased by GoPro).

We (our studio) often renders digital masters for our clients using standard formats (mostly XDCAM EX or XAVC) - but we sometimes get requests for AVIs with the CineForm 12bit 444 masters. We use these masters to also encode to web delivery formats for the clients. I like the overall workflow of MeGUI and x264 compared to other products we have used in the past.

The problem One Click was having appeared to be with the extraction of the bit stream that is in the mkv file it creates. No matter which codec I tested with in an .avi container - all had the same error.

And I am wondering about why One Click with AVISource has the audio parameter set to 'false'.

For now I find that using AVISynth Script Batcher with a template to load the AVI file with AVISource (with audio) and or a template to load XDCAM and XAVC files with FFMS and then loading those into One Click the best work flow.

Cheers

With AVISource you have the problem that you can only encode the first audio track and also that no stream copying is possible.

Please upload a short sample file. I would like to reproduce it myself.

I see what the problem is.... when the AVI is muxed into a .mkv, that muxing part of the process is fine. However, when it gets to the part where is tries to extract the .mkv file with eac3to, it cannot read or recognize the video bitstream. I can confirm this by straight up muxing the .avi to an .mkv file then trying to open it with HD Streams Extractor (eac3to). I get an error there as well.

So I am guessing this process only works if the video and audio streams are encoded with codecs that eac3to can support (extract). My .AVI (which is muxed to .mkv) is obliviously one that is not supported. I do not have any other codecs that I can use to create an AVI with to test.

The next step would be to change the behavior so that one click does not ignore the audio track when using AVISource (when create intermediate .mkv option is disabled). Or a perhaps at least make it an option.

But for now, creating AVS scripts outside MeGUI and then using those scripts with One Click is working perfectly.
