vdmod help with .mkv files

I've just formatted my hard disk and installed windows from scratch. The problem is that I don't remember what I had done in order to be able to open .mkv files in VirtualDubMod, so as to convert them to .avi files.

I have also installed avisynth 2.58 and the latest K-lite codec pack. When I try to open an .mkv file I get an error code -2----(error decompressing video frame 0-the image source is not acceptable)

Can anybody help me? And please don't tell me that vdmod is outdated e.t.c., until recently I was able to open any .mkv file without problems.

Thanks in advance.
