BD-Rebuilder W/DGDecNV enabled comparisons

I'm starting this thread, for multiple reasons. I'm sure Jdobbs would appreciate benchmarks going to a proper thread, and not plaguing the bug reports thread As well as producing informative results, which will help others determine if DGDecNV is right for them, and what kind of gains they'll see with the mentioned hardware/s.

And perhaps others can help me better interpret, and understand the various settings

I recently lost my GTX 260 in what I call a meltdown(water cooling leak). So out of curiosity, I decided to test one of the more minimum cards laying around. An 8600Gt. I expected the card to actually hinder the performance. And as it turns out, with the right settings, performance will not be hindered.

I'll be receiving a GTX 570 wednesday, whereby I'll continue more testing. It has become apparent that the 8600Gt will not amount to the gains I'd like to achieve. But I'm not able to utilize my CPU fully, due to an improper air cooler getting me by. 3 cores for short periods of time, is all I can muster at the moment Thankfully a new air cooler is also on its way

(The following results are from an AMD 965 quad at 3.4Ghz, and mushkin DDR3 1600 Cas 7 Ram)

The video stream is a 49 second AVC clip from "Star Trek: The next Level Sampler".

When the GTX 570 arrives, I will continue.

As it appears to me now, The faster the CPU, the faster the GPU can serve the frames. My 8600Gt is probably not the best GPU for testing this, But it is not busting its butt. It is very outdated. I can't wait to see the results of a modern GPU

Sorry about the wait. As you know, full "high quality" encodes take time I prefer high quality, because I have noticed slight differences between fast and high quality, during action sequences. Given not much compression is needed for this one, Faster would probably have sufficed

All encodes were done at 3.7Ghz(High Quality). It should probably be noted, I use 3Tb Green drives (WD) for my storage, encoding drives. The source and output!

The last post was right at the 16,000 character limit.

Something I found interesting, perhaps Jdobbs will too? The output sizes were substantially different, with the different frameservers.

This is interesting. This first run (using DGDecNV) stressed the GPU's Video engine more so then I have seen in the past. It averaged 99% load. The CPU on the other hand averaged 22 - 25%(HC encoder). It's as though the GPU could not keep up with the frame serving. If the two were to work in tandem(CPU frameserve as well), we could likely see a gain here. But how many people actually output to dvd anyway? This is a fairly rare process for me.

Can you please check with AVSmeter what frame rates you can reach with DGDecNV. Maybe your GTX570 is limiting as it only has VP4.
You can also use the GPU observer to see if VPU is running at 100%.

I have a GT520 with VP5 and if I use DGDecNV it is way faster as using LAVF or ffdshow. My performance increase is about 60% with DGDecNV .

It may be a pointless endeavor. Not sure how to run Avsmeter yet anyhow. Haven't done any sort of scripting.

It's worth noting, that I run my encodes with High quality settings. Making the frameserver have to wait on the CPU. But I do see it bust it's butt from time to time, using GPU-Z for monitoring sensors

I'm currently only seeing one reason to use DGDecNV for frameserving. The output file size/s are extremely close to what is specified.

This is the first source I've seen MPEG-2, 1920 x 1080. The video engine (VPU) never runs with these sources according to GPU-Z. The GPU however averages 15%. The AVC sources under quick encode ramp to an average of 99% on the VPU, where the GPU does nearly nothing.

GPU about 15% is fine, same at my system. But if the VPU is running about 99% then it's limiting and all of your cores shouldn't reach 100% CPU load.

Yup, I"ve experienced that. DVD output comes to mind in particular.

Recently acquired the 1090t. Interesting results. when running Batman & Robin.

965 at 3.7Ghz, 1090t at 3.8Ghz + GTX 570. (per core performance is VERY close to the 965 here).

I'll definitely be using DGDecNV a lot more now! Because I tried using Multiprocess=2 alone, and it had little to no effect. Suffice to say, I didn't let the job run long...

i just did 2 runs of MIBł, multi-threading on auto for a Q9550 (2thread)s, 3h20min. DGDecNV 2.5hrs
