Having trouble ripping a damaged DVD
Hi,
I have an original DVD (dual layer), and looking at it it's a bit scratched, not to badly but a bit 'fuzzy' esp around the outer edge. It plays ok apart from one track, where it skips/stutters etc. AnyDVD has a 'rip and repair' option, but it gets stuck at 22% and just hangs. Same for DVDdecrypter and IMGburn. Any ideas? Thanks |

Hi, you could try, if the above useful suggestions fail, repairing the disc. You can do this with toothpaste and a cloth. Polish down the scratched bits by going from center out and back. Don't polish it down in a circular motion just in and out. Or you could buy a commercial product which does the same thing but costs more. You can wash the disc under the tap after the polishing. Just make sure there's no dirt or particles on the disk first. I've tried it a few times after failing to play library dvds and it works very well. And I've used a commercial product too which also worked. Best of luck and let us all know how you're managing...

Keep also in mind that not all drives are "equally born". The best results I had with an LG burner. Some people say that LiteOn burners are equally good. The same goes with BTC burners. Plextors are not so good in DVDs, and NECs are probably the worst readers I've ever met. So, changing the drive could be the key. |

Search for "H2cdimage" and/or "Dares for Windows"
http://www.heise.de/ct/05/16/links/078.shtml Well, it's a german website, but there should be many english explanations as well. |
