Ripping Problems:

hi guys, i tried to rip pitch black but it didnīt work in my standalone.
iīve made the following steps to create my "little" dvd backup...

1.
with smartripper copyied in the file-modus all files to a subdirectory
2.
put with filemerger all files together (with an ntsf filesystem on xp)
3.
opened the main big vob-file and created the xxx.m2v file
4.
opened with ifoedit the VTS_01_0.IFO from the streamed film
(VOB-EXTRAS)
- Strip Stream"
- Correct Vob-Unit (Navigation Pack) pointers in VOB File
- Remove P-UOps - Correct IFO Tables with new VOB-Unit Information - Create new VIDEO_TS & VTS_01_0.IFO"
selected my audio-stream and streamed the film with one audio-language...
5.
with ifoedit i opened the new VTS_01_0.IFO from the sub-dir where iīve streamed the film
(VOB-EXTRAS)
-only Remux selected
and then put the m2v in and ripped the entire thing to another directory called final.
6.
after that i had new smaller vob-files...
than i īve put all the files except the vobīs from the streamed directory to the final directory.
7.
ifoedit
opened VTS_01_0.IFO from the final directory
(VOB-EXTRAS)
- Correct Vob-Unit (Navigation Pack) pointers in VOB File
- Remove P-UOps
- Correct IFO Tables with new VOB-Unit Information
- Create new VIDEO_TS & VTS_01_0.IFO"
and selected another directory called final2.
8. than i have overwritten all the files (bup&ifo) from the final2 directory to the final directory.
9.
with ifoedit i opened each ifo-file from the final-directory...
Get VTS Sectors
(at last VIDEO_TS.IFO)
and now the film plays correct with one language in my pc, but my dvd canīt recognize the film.
where is my mistake ??? (&thx a lot)

Sounds very good, the steps you did.

So it looks like, there's still a problem with one or more start-sectors, if it doesn't play in your settop player.

It might be a reason, on the burning tool you used.
Wich one did you use ?

Hi Derrow,
I use Nero5.564
In the settings of Nero:
Iso/udf dvdrom, ISO Level 1, iso 9660, nothing else selected
Than I create two directories:
VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS
throw all the files from my film in the VIDEO_TS su-dir and burn...
thatīs all...

What kind of media are you using (-r/rw or +rw)?
*Be sure your standalone is compatible with media you're using*
Nero doesn't work with Philips standalones and +rw media (it only works on my PC).
But if you record your dvd+rw with RecordNow it plays great on all players.

I have owned a Pioneer A03 Player and made a Bios-Update to Version V1.68
I also use a Pioneer DVD-RW to test my Rip.
My Standalone-Player is a Philips DVD951.
Does anybody know if this is the right configuration????

mcp:

My player is Philips 955 (almost the same as 951 with karaoke add on)
I never could record DVD-video with Nero (even with 5.5.6.9 Beta version)
Philips 951 and 955 are compatible with DVD-R and +RW media (not sure about dvd-rw support, I think you need 7.13 or 7.22 firmware version for +rw and -rw media support)

Try to record the disc with RecordNow or Prassi latest versions. Go to Derrow's web page for instructions.

Nero will not work with your Philips standalone...

i did it !!!

hi,
my philips now works with dvd-rw from philips.
i use gear v6 and in options i clicked "dvd-book" ver2 on.
now i can watch my film with an dvd-rw in my standalone!!!!
...but another question i also have:
(it was a hardcore-film with the exact size of 4.3 gb)
now the problem is that i can change the book in gear to v2, which else software can do this???
(because the problem is that if i rip a film & stripe etc.pp. gear is very exact with importing the video_ts folder, what for software does the same or is there an option in gear to manually create the disk ???)
sure i will test it, but for now on u know what i watch tonight...
greetings,mcp (Yeaaahhh!!!!)

@rmtaibo & @mcp

@rmtaibo, @mcp,

1/
i see you guys have philips standalone player (951 & 955).
i owned a philips dvd957.
did you ever burned dvd-r without the empty AUDIO_TS folder :
i burned so far 2 dvd-r that play fine on my standalone except that i have no audio

i was wondering (after i realized i did not have an audio_ts folder)
if that could why i dont have any audio.

2/
to rmtaibo,
you are talking firmware for your standalone philips :
where do you get them? how do know you player's firmware?

Thx,
Erwan

I always had made two folder video_ts AND audio_ts.-Never burned a film without audio_ts.
I think that you have the same prob like me with gladiator:
1.)no sound, chapters all working
or
2.)sound, but chapters are mad
so I think try another film or rip this film different to get the audio-language (test..test..test..) and after every test-round burn it on an dvd-RW to decrease the costs for media!!!
ciao,mcp

i've heard a lot of people talking about compatibility with "older" players.

i'm NEVER going to buy an "older" player in the future. If the one i have now plays them fine, then that's good enough.

each successive dvd player that comes out in the next years will be more forgiving on dvd mistakes. so any "future" players i buy are going to be even more forgiving than the one i currently own.

and if i go to a friends house that has an "older" player that won't play my discs...then he won't be my friend anymore. that's the way i'll pick future friends.

@ erwan:

1)

Philips 95x series does not need AUDIO_TS folder for DVD-Video playing.

2)

Philips' latest and old firmware versions for standalone link:

To know the standalone's firmware version:
