A free Blu-ray Ripper solution, rip Blu-ray to iPod,iPhone,Zune,PSP...Any format.

Hello all,

AVGo Media Recorder is an easy-to-use multimedia recorder with Blu-ray ripping capabilities.

I'm the author of AVGo Media Recorder, it's a free software. I would like to introduce my new software to you all. The Media Recorder can record any video that is being played by your software media player(WMP, PowerDVD...). So by this software, you can even record your favorite Blu-ray Movies to any other video format, including .mp4, .avi, .wmv, .mov, ... so you can enjoy your own Blu-ray Disc movies on your mobile devices, including iPod, iPhone, iTouch, Zune, PSP, Cell Phone PDA and so on, or for backup your Blu-ray Disc purpose.

And this solution is very easy-to-use, you don't care about such as AACS issue and other blu-ray encrypting issues. What you need to do is just Playing your Blu-ray and Recording it.

I released the first version 1.01 on 15-04-2008. There should be some bugs and stuffs need to be improved yet, although I have recorded dozen Blu-ray Discs successfully on my side. So I would like to get your feedback to improve the software.

You can download it from http://www.bluraydiscripper.com The latest version is ver 1.07.

[Quick Guide]

Step 1: Close all Media Players on your PC, including windows Media Player, PowerDVD, WinDVD ...

Step 2: Launch Avgo Media Recorder.

Step 3: Launch Cyberlink PowerDVD, and play your Blu-ray Disc.

Step 4:(This step is optional, you can skip it.) Select Output Profile you like, for example: if you would lile to convert to iPhone format, please select "iPhone (480x320) MPEG-4 Movie(.mp4)"

Step 5: (This step is optional, you can skip it.) Select Recording Duration, for example: if your movie duration is 1hour and 30 minutes, you can select 01:30:00.

Step 6: Click "Record" button to start recording what you like.

All Done. Following is the screen shot of recording under Vista.

Actually it is, you are advertising a product, even if its a free product, you are advertising it.

I also notice on the software screenshot there is a "Upgrade" button, I asume this is for upgrade to pro/full version?

edit:
Ok i couldnt help myself i had to download and have a look, the Upgrade button isn't for pro/full version its got a Donate and Software Update button in it, just bad wording of the menu..... unfortunetly i cant try it as i dont have a BR drive, but to me it looks like its going to frame grab...

Yes, there is an "upgrade" button, but it just means to find a new version for updating software. This software is a free software for ever.

Thank you for your first feedback. Actually, English is not my native language. I would like to modify the "Upgrade" to "Update" in next version. Is that right?

I don't have a HD ROM, so never test that. But I think if you use PowerDVD to play your HD-DVD, my software may work for you as well. Please get a test, and let me know.

Sorry for my misunderstanding. Yes it can. It supports various video formats as output, you can select the proper output profile(.avi, .h264...) and customize the output resolution to 1920x1080/1280x720 or something like that.

But the bigger resolution you select, the worse performance you may get, that base on the power of your PC. I recommend you must have at lease 2G bytes memory and Core 2 Duo CPU to output HD(1080/720).

must try it - will be alot quicker recording a movie to say mp4 than decrypting and re-encoding.

Actually, my purpose to do this software is just recording Blu-ray to portable devices such as iPod, PSP, Zune... I never tested whether it can support full HD size as output. So I am also interested in its capability, then I did some test. Following is the output files for testing full HD size. You can download it to see the effect. My computer Spec. is Intel Quad CPU Q6600 with 2G RAM.
1. XviD avi file in 1920x1080 with video bitrate 5000kbps download this clip
2. MPEG-4 file in 1920x1080 with Video bitrate 5000kbps download this clip
3. H.264 file in 1920x1080 with video bitrate 1500kbps download this clip

You can find that the output quality is acceptable, but anyway, I still suggest you try traditional DVD resolution(720x480) as output instead of HD(1920x1080) resolution to backup your Blu-ray. The Blu-ray to DVD output is perfect.

I just released a new version 1.03 for AVGo Media Recorder on 24-04-2008.
What's New for Ver 1.03:
1. .avi profile is updated.
2. Added three new profiles for outputting Blu-ray HD resolution. They are "Blu-ray - AVI HD", "Blu-ray - mp4" and "Blu-ray - H.264". If you would like to output a full HD(1080/720) resolution, you can choose one of them.

I love to see new software! And this one is no exception.

In earnest, though, I'm not entirely sure frame-grabbing is the way to go these days. BD+ is already pwned (AnyDVD HD), so there's essentially no need any more to grab frames from PowerDVD; especially since frame-grabbing is always tricky business: kind of a last resort, when everything else fails. It's primarily sensitive to sync issues and/or the skipping of frames. I'd much prefer your program just took an input stream from file.

Also, color me blind, but I didn't see 1920x1080 resolutions.

And I'd like PS3 support (currently one of the major Bluray platforms). Although I reckon mp4 will do.

Gee, I hope I didn't sound too negative.

I'm not sure I see the difference between having to buy AnyDVD HD or having to buy PowerDVD.

The difference is that PowerDVD is included free with a lot of (almost all) Blu-ray Disc PC drives.

Well it is with most EOMs in Australia. I guess some retailers try to rip you off by keeping the discs to sell separately!

Regardless, the disc is worth about $5 - compared to $100 for AnyDVD so the original claim is mute.

@MrBDRipper

Hi!

What are the audio recording capabilities and/or limitations (if any) of your impressive program?

(I ask this because I noted that the three samples you provided all contain 2 channel audio)
