Submux questions

What fileformat does submux, which ships wit dvd2svcd, use? And is it possible to create subtitle files without ripping them from DVD, because I just want to test my DVD players SVCD subtitle capabilities.

If you just want to test SVCD subtitles capabilities, download this file http://www.vcdimager.org/pub/vcdimag..._test_ntsc.zip unzip it and burn with fireburner.

this submux tool is another one, which can only add SVCD subs to a mpeg. It has nothing to do with that one which comes with vobsub pack

Does anybody know how to create subs for submux manually, because I am not interested in downloading multi megabyte file and I don't onw a DVD drive.

IMHO it is still pretty hard to convert your own translated subs into a SVCD-readable format. I like to translate,for example, RC1-DVD´s into my own language (german) by using SubStation Alpha ´cause it offers the best editing-comfort. And it is also easy to render the Subs to Bitmaps with MAestro, BUT Maestro should definetely offer more output options, for none of the subtitle-converters I know can handle "DVD-MAestro", "Scenarist" or "I-Author" index files correctly. It took me ages (line-per-line editing

) till I somehow managed to produce an Philips SVCD compatible file.

P.s.: Submux muxed my subs in the End,but i can´t check them ´cause PowerDVD doesn´t allow Subtitles in Filemode,so I came to the idea of trying to rip my own subs with Subrip,in order to see,if they were muxed correctly, but every time I try, it says:
"Bad packet header in LBA 2"
"Bad packet header in LBA 3"
...

Can I ignore these Errors or does it mean,that the subs won´t be shown on my standalone either?

I'm fighting with the same issue, Latexxx. Thanks to Mozart's reply to my question in this thread http://rilanparty.com/vbb/showthread...threadid=12697 I'm a bit closer: MaestroSBT (downloadable at Doom9's) is able to convert .ssa sub files to .ogt format which can be understood by I-Author and Submux ( -C switch as pointed out by others such as Infinite_stupidity).

A word of warning: .ssa -> .ogt MaestroSBT converted files may be messed up a bit with timing. I haven't found .ssa files on the web for my movies so I did some srt -> ssa -> ogt conversions... The times were unbelievable and I-Author for one didn't understand. BUT in Subrip you can load the srt file, do Convert to I-Author and get the right times. Then it it a matter of copy and pasting the right times etc. around MaestroSBT generetad BMP's, lol. (In the txt file generated by Maestro the BMP pointers will be right, the times wrong, that's why you C&P... or you can c&P the BMP names from Maestro's txt file to Subrip's).

Naturally if you just wanna test whatever text as subtitles (CVD) you can use OGT Creator that comes with I-Author.

And... maybe/probably Submux will accept the I-Author txt file plus BMP's as SVCD (Philips) subs...?

I've created a gui for summux download it from here: http://less.filetap.com/submux/ there is also some example subtitles. Submux doesn't accept .ogt subs. More of talking about the gui can be found from svcd encoding-forum.

@ Shlumpf,

SubRip surely cannot rip subs muxed with "submux4SVCD" (what about this new name?), and this is only because it was not developed with this aim. The ID of SVCD sub stream is different of DVD sub ID. Subrip don't know it.
None known software can read svcd subtitles. This is done, nowadays, only by standalone players.
You can use both bbdmux (which comes with bbtools pack) or vcdxminfo (comes with vcdimager) to verify if your mpeg file is ok.

I changed MaestroSBT code a lot, so I think the timing is doing more accurately now. May be you want to give it a try.

You can rip the svcd subs out with vob2sub it's in the same package as submux but it's buggy. You must for instance rename your mpeg file to input.mpg otherwise it wíll not work. The file must be in the sam dir.
Latexxx made next to the submux gui a vob2sub gui for it.
