Basic video editing using a DV camera and a DVD-recorder with HD

Is it possible to make basic video editing with a DV camera and a DVD-recorder with hard disk?
I mean: transfering a video from the DV camera to the HD of the dvd recorder through firewire, cutting unwanted parts, recording the result on a DVD.
Is it possible to do these things without hard drive?

With only the camcorder and a DVD recorder, the way to do it is:

1. Watch the DV tape and make a note of the bits you want to keep
2. Put a blank recordable DVD in the DVD recorder
3. Put the recorder in pause mode
4. Cue the first bit of the DV tape you want
5. Start both the tape and DVD recorder
6. Pause the DVD recorder when the DV clip ends
7. Repeat from step 4.

Somewhat tedious but pretty much the same process as people used before computers came along....
