Sick and Tired of No 360 Divx Support
I don't know about the rest of you, but I for one am daily getting more and more adjitated by having no mpeg4-asp support on the 360.......and I certainly do see on usenet, on forums, the same consistent message - "where is the mpeg4-asp support for 360"!!!!
The natural suggestion is for Divx to partner with Microsoft with selling not only generic MPEG4-ASP support, but real support for the .divx container format as well. Sell the dam thing on XBOX Live Marketplace where people can use their MS Points. It would benefit Divx with having a wider penetration for Divx on a device that is selling by the millions. We want to stream mpeg4-asp, we want to play it back locally. We want divx on the 360. |

x360 will never have any form of MPEG video support beyond what it currently has. You'll be holding your breath for nothing if you expect MS to volantarily chip away their wmv market share

Their WMV support is broken. Did some WMV8 encodes, problems with playback only on the 360. And no VC1. See my thread elsewhere on doom9.
And besides, why force the customer base into transcoding their footage. Just lame. |

Logically I dont see how these arguments add up.
If Microsoft wanted to push their own formats exclusively, then how do you explain the fact that IPOD / AAC audio support was added as an optional download? Clearly Microsoft is atleast interested in some usability beyond their own formats. |

Thats a straw man argument. Your misrepresenting my position to downplay it.
The 360 was presented to be a solid media platform as well as a gaming platform. The PS3, their expected main competitor, is also saying theirs will be a solid media platform. The 360 eventually will have to support DVD playback, HD-DVD playback and the possible WMV container video codecs like WMV9,WMV9, WMV9AP. It allready supports WMA9, WMA10Pro, PCM, MP3, AAC audio. Its really not that much of a stretch for mpeg4-asp support. Afterall, many dvd players support it now as well. |

Most likely because of the fact that significant levels of legal content exist and they wish to encourage people to migrate from apple's proprietary setup to theirs. As no commercial ASP video systems in the same category exist, there is no market for migration and therefore the only end result would be a net migration away from WMV to MPEG |

why dont you just get a chipped normall xbox and use the mplayer based xbmc to play virtually anything you can think of.
I also aggree with squid_80 on buying products that dont do what you want. Its like buying a bannana and then complaining its not an orange.

I have alot of joy with my 360. It was simply that with my old xbox, having XBMC as well was so very handy. It made that device into a more useful item. Ofcourse I enjoy the 360 for what it does, but it's so much more powerful than the old generation xbox it is a shame to see the multimedia implementation crippled. Especially considering people, including myself, would be prepared to pay for a multimedia add on that extended the 360's utility.
Check I can see your insight there and I think thats a good point. |

Hey, Bathrone, we hear you!
Actually, many of the points raised by others are dead on, as to why Microsoft does not support DivX on the X-Box. Bottom line, they want to extend their dominance into the living room, and competitors, even small ones like us!, don't figure into their plans. But you never know, the new Zune player is supposed to support AAC, so they are not completely opposed to other formats. |

huh i am really surprised that he meant that zune will support both aac and h.264
it shows how strong those formats are if their biggest opposer supports them ![]() ( i am pretty sure that m$ will only support them very crappily tough)
