need ac3 codec, where to get one?

Have you tried looking on this site in the downloads section? It's where I got mine. In the audio section, I think it's the audio filters.

If not, try PowerDVD or WinDVD. Both have the AC3 playback filter. If your wanting to compress sound using the AC3 format, then good luck. I've never seen an app that allows such a thing.

you can create ac3 sound in Soft Encode (from sonic foundry). For 5.1 ac3 you will need 6 wavs, each for each stream....
