Is my PC too slow for video encoding?

Hi, I want to make divx(1.4GB) from DVD(4GB/120min) but, I don't think my PC can handle it..

The spec of my PC is..
P4 1.6Ghz
768mb
maxtor 200gb

Thanks.

Don't worry, I began encoding several years ago when a P3 was state of the art, so a P4 can do it for sure... just don't expect super fast encoding speed

Any PC can "handle it," it's just a matter of how long it'll take to perform the task. I've encoded a small file on a 233 MHZ Pentium II without a hitch, though it ran something like .02 frames per second.

When I first began using DVD Shrink, I was using an Athlon 800 with PIO IDE controllers. It worked and I thought it was wonderful. And it was. But it took twenty hours, sometimes, to compress long films.

Don't feel too bad, it took 36 days to encode my 20-minute video.

I've done my first encoding and it took about 6 hours! Oops! I forgot to encode audio.. :/

Subtitles were encoded in the divx as well but, I didn't intend to encode it though. How can I not encode subtitles for next encoding?

Here is the log..

This would be a very unusual problem when using the full Gordian Knot, as the subtitles must be demuxed manually and added separately.
