Hi!

If your O/S is WinXP, try performing a "System Restore" back to the last time things were working properly...

A "system restore" should be your last resort, not your first. You'll never understand your problem/s if you initiate system restore at the first provocation.

There are many things that can throw the DEP error, so without being there to work with you hands on, it's harder. I'd first ask if the ripped extra that chokes WMP is DivX encoded? If so, you need to check your codecs and see if there's a problem, there. Do you have two antivirus app's running simultaneously? If so, uninstall both then reinstall one and try your clip again. WMP is considered to be less than optimal (I'm being nice, here), why not try downloading and installing Windows Media Player Classic and tell us if it will play the file with no errors.

If none of this is relevant/helps, I'll throw in one of my mantras: Use the search button. Check both inside, and outside the forum. annoyances.org is a good resource on XP fubars. Where ever you try, use "wmp dep" as keywords and prepare to do some reading, there's lots out there on this topic. Good luck!
