Convert avi clips to dvd

Hi. I'm still new to this dvd burning stuff. I've read about using nero to create and burn a dvd disc but i still can't seems to do it.

I've a few clips on my hard disck that is of avi file format. I've tried to create a player readable dvd disc but it say it ca't convert from avi or mpg format.

Any suggestion or idea on how i could burn my video clip?

I'm using a nero suite that comes with my dvd writer. It's nero OEM, 6.6.0.15.

I've split your request off into its own thread; you'll get more focus this way. Secondly, be very careful on how you approach avi issues. We can only give you support on backing up titles that you own. If there's a reason for working with avi files, such as DV capture, you need to say so. Take a look at the Forum Rules and the Announcement at the top of the Newbies page.

Thanks for splitting into a new thread so i can get more attention to my problem. And also pointing out the dilemma you guys face concerning the "avi" movie clips.

The clips i'm trying to create a player readable disc for are clips of my last holiday in china. I'm still trying to figure out how to burn to dvd disc before trying to join all clips into one continous movie.

Having multiple computer readable only clips is taking up space in my hdd. And a bit troublesome when showing to others.

Hmm...I use a program called Avi2Dvd, unfortunately I don't remember where I got it from since my SO gave it to me as a gift. However it lets me make a .iso file out of 1 avi clip that I can then burn using the burning function on dvdDecrypter.

Oh, I use it to make dvd gifts of my own machinima, if anyone was worried about copyright issues. I lose some quality, but it doesn't crash for me like Nero does.

OK, you've got avi clips that you've obviously "captured" to your hard drive from the cam. Didn't your cam come bundled with some sort of editing software? If so, supply the make and model of your cam and the bundled software in your next post.

A more manageable workflow would be to move several clips into an editing program, do all your work there, and then export to MPEG-2 (DVD).

Oh ya.

Now that you mentioned it, i remember there's a program that comes with my digicam. If my memory serve me correctly, the software should be Ulead or something. Seems like i need to learn to use the new software then.

Seems like i need to sort out where i last placed the disc now.

The Ulead products get high marks for being user-friendly out of the box, and they have to be; it's confusing enough trying to learn the capture/edit/author/burn merry-go-round without having to deal with a piece of software that's way over a beginner's head. Dig that disc up, load the program, and jump right into your help files. If you're lucky, you'll have a set of screenshot tutorials to work with.

Get stuck, post back.

When you get situated and begin to capture, your capture interface controls will allow you to do a lot of editing at this point. You can toggle back and forth and select only portions of your footage that you perceive to be "viewable by others". For instance, say you have 10 clips out of an hour's tape that you've captured. You can next drag them to the timeline, insert transitions if you like, and view your newly created file before sending it to the burner. I have no idea of the sophistication of the tool you'll be using, but lots of editors have the functionality of allowing you to select all of the clips you've captured, and sending them to the timeline with a single click. Automation is a cool, timesaving thing!

Aarrgghh! I just now noticed in your last post, you mentioned "digicam". Are you using one of the cams that records the footage straight to disc in MPEG-2 format?

Yes, i'm using my digicam to record my clips but it save all files as avi format. And the files are all very big in size thus i'm trying to join them and to create them as dvd disc. But nero won't accept these files.

As for using the ulead software, i've installed and tried using it but still can't seems to get it to work. Everything is so confusing and technical for me. I'm trying to look for tutorials on how to use it and hopefully get it too work.

Your brief intro into how to use the program is still baffling for me. I think i need some more work to digest what you have said and try play around with it for now.

for bearing this with me. i'm a slow learner but i'll try my best..
