*.mpa ? whats this??

i am encoding as described in the divx4 virtualdub & avisynth guide. yesterday i tried to encode "meet the feebles" but the sound output file from dvd2avi isn't ac3 as usual it is mpa?? what is mpa and what do i do with such a file? encode with wich programm?

I think that this is "mpeg audio" or mpeg1 layer II (*.mp2). Try in winamp (and/or try to rename in *.mp2 and doubleclick). If you want to reencode use lame otherwise just multiplex with video in virtualdub (add a wave header before).

i know this thread is old, but just wanted to make
sure the answer is clear... unlike damjang suggests,
no file renaming or other such is needed, you can
simply use Winamp's "Disk Writer Plugin" to convert
it to a wave file. you can also feed mpa files directly
to Lame by using the --mp2input switch.
