I suppose you did a full uninstall of older ati drivers before install the 9.2. Apart from this, I don't know why it fails to you and not to me... |

Because CoreAVC and Cyberlink is x86 filters and can't work with x64 app.

Is it possible to add advanced options back to VMR9 such as the Procamp and the deinterlacing tab?
With regular MPC they are there but not with MPC-HC. Why were these tabs removed? I think it's very important to know what kind of deinterlacing is used... |

There is a possibility that the 2400 behaves a little different than the 2600 AGP even though i find that unlikely. The problem only occurs on high bitrate material (more with vc1 than with h264 - but some blu ray titles exhibit the problem more others only rarely) with a display resolution of 1920x1080 in full screen mode at a display frequency of an exact multiple of 23.976 (e.g. 47.952). It also is very sensitive to vertical blank timing. So there are a number of variables - but i am not alone with this prob, there are tons of users reporting the same, so i doubt its my setup.

I can't get the program to playback my wmv clips
I seem to recall I did play some of those clips way back. I can't seem to open them although filters and stuff in the program are enabled. Last edited by Tagert; 6th March 2009 at 13:17. |

MPC plays WMV files just fine. It does however depend on files in the operating system for playing them. So if your Windows installation is broken, or if you ripped out WMP, then you got a problem. You need to install the Windows Media Format Runtimes to 'fix' it.

hmm okey.
I'm running windows xp x64. I already have windows media player 11 installed. I have installed the x64 version of MPC HC. I've tried disabling the internal filters just incase ffdshow could support the wmv file playback, but that didn't work either. Tried googling abit for the windows media format runtime but I only end up finding 32bit versions for it |

Semi good news everyone.
I found the exact problem with the ATi 9.2 driver. I have a workaround in place (at least for my system) I'm 99% sure now that the bug is in MPC-HC and not the catalyst driver Steps to take: -Remove all previous ati drivers -Reboot into safe mode and run Driver sweeper -Reboot into regular windows and install 9.2 AGP Hotfix -Apply DeusEx patches -Reboot -Apply DeusEx patches Now the final step, and this is the the one that will fix it. -Change your display to 1920x1080@50 or lower refresh rate. -Lower resolutions can stay at 60hz -Anything below 60hz will work: 50,30,25,24 |

What is the precise definitiion of this 9.2 bug? Is it the no DXVA problem? Is it Vista only? Because 9.2 (without hotfix, ATI3850) on XP works fine @50Hz and 60Hz here, H.264 and VC-1 - last stable release and the latest Beliyaal build.
Or maybe this is something completly different? |

This happens in XP. Although every card/connection can suffer from this problem most reports are: -AGP and PCI cards, any model -2400 and 2600 any connection |

I tried this ages ago, here are my findings:
1) Changing parameters like refreshrate does seem to help 2) But the errors are still there only that they become rare (like every 10 minutes) and also much less severe Back than i analysed this futher and came to these conclusions: 1) if you have a resolution with a high backporch value the errors/jumpingframes/corrupiton increases 2) the same referesh rate with front/back porches exchanged (high front porch - low back porch) decreases the errors Sadly, no geometry/refreshrates/porch/sync values eliminate the problem completely - i also have a 60hz 1920x1080 profile which works pretty decent (like a corruption every 7-12 minutes) and a 47,952 which shows it every couple of minutes. I tracked the problem down to the vertical sync handling of MPC HC in conjunction with catalyst and directx9... i think the problem can be solved within MPC HC. Just try opening the right mousebutton context menu - if thats on screen everything is perfect - even in fullscreen and any refreshrate. Quote:

I update to the latest ATI drivers and used the latest revision. It's still the same. When using "system default", in full screen I get the following: There are white lines on the left and bottom left. They change color and move around. (need to see picture fullsize to see it.) Using "evr" mode, I don't get the problem in fullscreen. But after returning to window mode from fullscreen, I notice there are lines on the border (middle left) that blinks contstantly. EVR custum and vmr9 doesn't have these problems but it seems they are not fast enough to play some HD content so I don't want to use those. Last edited by mencius; 7th March 2009 at 02:19. |

I have a few samples from Blu-ray discs that the subtitles don't show correctly or at all with any recent version.
These subtitles do not show at all, ever: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=EJV1V7VW http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FO4WK7WC This sample most of the subtitles show OK when played back from the disc, except for a few (or maybe just this one since I haven't check all subs) which show up but incorrectly. After I cut it with TsRemux, the subtitle disappeared completely. I enclosed a pic of the problem subs when played from disc. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=DE4IPPIK I've tried several versions from xvidvideo.ru and the experimental Beliyaal builds and none work. I'm using Vista Home Basic 32 with an Ati HD3650. I've tried a few different decoders and EVR and VMR9 renderers.

Question: Is there a way for me to force FFDshow to be used while playing any video files? I was not able to do that while using MPC Homecinema, but FFDshow was listed as a filter while using BSPlayer PRO. I can only see one "MPC Decoder" or something similar listed as a filter.
Let me be very clear about this: If I can't see FFDshow listed while using MPC-HD, I will not be able to see the video with the best settings, and the image will look dark and not adjusted in terms of contrast and that sort of thing. The pure image from the video looks bad when compared to the filtered image, obtained from FFDshow where I can increase the brightness and contrast. BTW, the XVID codec is also installed in this machine. But, like I said, it's not being selected as a filter while using BSP or MPC are running (we don't need to, FFDShow was doing the job to modify bright/contrast settings). Note: This is a brand new machine, recently with XP installed. In the old machine (and classic MPC), the FFDShow was available/listed as a filter.

You need to download and install FFDSHOW separately and then enable it in MPC-HC's external filter list.
