Filestreams limitations from PS3 device

Hi,

Are there some A/V filestreams limitations that this device doesn't support yet or is it able to play everything perfectly ?

I mean like Profiles & Levels from AVC streams, multichannel support for audio streams, subtitles, etc...

Last I checked. No DTS, No lossless audio, No Subtitles, No MKV, No chapters. And last I tried, multi-channel pcm was flaky.

High Profile, level 4.1 support. <--- haven't tried anything higher.
AC3, MP3, AAC, WMA.
AVI, DIVX, TS, M2TS, MP4 support that I know of.

There's been 2 or 3 updates since I last tried format support though.

I'm a little bored, so I'll see what it can do at system version 2.53.

edit: Oh, I remember encoding 1080p with 5 refs by mistake once. That didn't work.

edit2: Handles this fine.

thanks...it seems that DTS is supported since the firmware 2.30.

About AC3 : multichannel ok or not ?
About AAC : multichannel ok or not ? LC only or HE/PS too ?

About M2TS : no subtitles support from BD yet, right ?
About MP4: no subtitles support, right ?

AC3: multichannel
AAC: multichannel (used to be downmixed to stereo; didn't test yet, but someone on this forum told me it does multichannel now)

MP4: no subtitles

edit: winner

Multichannel.
AC3 all good.

As is AAC, but i've only tried LC

Subtitles work fine from Blu-ray disk. But not from a streamed source no matter the container.

I'll have to check audio support tomorrow. ie: DTS.

BTW, LPCM multichannel works, except if you fast forward, it won't continue playback afterwards. It could be the source file though. I'll double check that as well tomorrow.

great...so, my last question.

what about the AC3-in-MP4 ? I suppose it's the no way to go for the moment, right ?

Here is a sample for testing when you have time...

No, only AAC in MP4.

And that DTS support was only for Blu-ray disc. Not from streamed content.
