...to do what? Encode RealVideo + put it into Matroska (everything on Linux)? Play it back? Reencode it into something different on a Mac running PPC Linux?

You CAN encode from a live source or an uncompressed avi, but you can't pipe forward to the producer (yet).

Apparently "Someone here wrote a test encoder on Linux using libavcodec as input source, allowing input of all libavcodec supported formats, but it has not been completed to a state where it can be distributed"

Multiplexing:
You can mux using the stadard tools (I think they only were PORTED to windows and are native Linux apps)

Playback:
Mplayer will play it if you have the real dlls (included in the essential codec pack) in the codecs folder

mplayer still can't seek in RealVideo files

works fine for me

I also had this problem some months ago...
Atm I'm using Fedora core 2, mplayer blabla-pre5 + the essential codec pack and it's working fine

mplayer has always been able to seek in RM files if you specify '-idx'. Since 1.0pre5 (I think) you don't need -idx anymore.

Xine plays too Realmedia in Matroska.

With VLC i have problems to compile it with Matroska support.
