"DVD Shrink" for 1080i & 720p HD MPEG2 files?
Hi All:
I have some 1080i and 720p MPEG2 HD files (*.ts or *.mpg) that are too big (but not by much) to fit on either single layer or dual layer DVDs. Historically, I've used DVD Shrink to address this problem with standard DVDs and, as I understand it, the program modifies the bit rate in selected areas to shrink the overall file size. Clearly, I'd like to do the same thing with my 1080i files without having to re-encode the whole file (or convert to h264) and was wondering whether any such program exists? I've tried requant in Avidemux but it does not work with HD files. Does something like this exist? Are there similar tools for AVC/mkv HD files? Thanks! |

The files are captured MPEG2 that are either 1080i or 720p. At issue is the fact that some are just a shade too large to burn to disc so they can be played on my Blu-ray player via HDMI (I use tsMuxer to create AVCHD files and then burn to disc with ImgBurn). I can of course edit them to be smaller, but that looses material and I was hoping to find a solution like DVD Shrink that does not require re-encoding the entire file - instead it simply adjusts the bit rate in selected segments.
This particular question focuses on MPEG2 files, but I also have same issue with several AVC/mkv files (they are too large to burn as an AVCHD disc and play) - sorry if that created confusion. |

Someone at AfterDawn suggested I try rejig:
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/ReJig Worked perfectly! Was able to easily reduce the size of HD mpeg2 files so they'd fit in DVDs with no significant loss of image quality (I only neede do shrink the files a few %)! And fast! |
