muxing *.mp3 in *.mp4

HEllo,

I've read some place that it's possible to mux mp3 in mp4 container.

Today I wanted to test the *.mp4 container, to see if my Standalone KISS DP-450 was able to read.

I tried many time to mux a xvid.avi & a audio.mp3 ( MP3-CBR and MP3-ABR ) with "mp4UI" and/or "mp4creator".

Everytime I get the Film.mp4, but when I try to read it in "MpegAble" or "Media Player Classic", I get image, but no sound.

I also made a *.mp4 with xvid.avi & audio.AAC, and it works perfectly.

Is their a special trick to get sound with *.mp3 in *.mp4 ?

If someone had already had this problem ?

P.S.
QUicktime is always complaining about "Audio stream error", even with AAC when it works with other players.

I guess most players expect AAC audio inside MP4, so the choke on MP3.

Have you tried playing it with the MPEG4ip player?

I also had this problem on older version of MP4creator.

What version are you using?

But I read on some place that MP3 was compatible.. ( everwicked.com, etc.. ). It's not "100% compatible" ?

Yes I tried, but only the GUI version "wmp4player" v0.9.7.4 .
But it freeze everytime. With AAC, With MP3, Without any Audio.. ( but I didn't try Cli version ).

I'm using :
- mp4creator v 0.9.7.4
- ( or/and ) mp4UI ( based on MPEGIP v 0.9.7.6 )
( - QuickTime 6 )

Thanks for helping

That statement is misleading. MP3 is accepted as a valid audio stream for MPEG4. But so are CELP, TwinVQ and SA (besides AAC, of course). Just because they are part of the standard doesn't means they must be supported by every application that playbacks MPEG4.

Heck, not even AAC is fully supported by any player, due to the myriad of profiles. Just because an MP4 stream with MPEG4 AAC Main LTP audio stream won't play on QuickTime, doesn't means QuickTime isn't standards compliant.

Indeed, it's a hell of a buggy player.

Weird. No clue then. Sorry.

You give me already a great part of answer.

*.mp3 doesn't seem to be fully accpeted by actual players in *.mp4.

And I just try to read :

- XviD-AAC in *.mp4
- XviD-alone in *.mp4
- XviD-AAC in *.mp4, renamed to *.avi

in the KISS DP-450 player.

And none was readable..

But what I don't understand, is that there's the *.mp4 official Logo on this DP-450 !! But in the DP-450 FAQ, Kiss doesn't say anything about *.mp4 (Only *.ogg, *.avi, *.vob, *.mpg, *.mpeg, *.mp3, *.wav ).

I wonder if this *.mp4 logo is here only for "marketing"

haha. Probably.

Have you tried contacting customer support?

Edit: BTW, how is your xvid encoding? I suggest you use as few advanced features as possible. Specifically, leave b-frames out.

And your AAC encoding? MPEG4 AAC LD?

Muxing vorbis with mp4

Check this out guys, quoted from everwicked MPEG4IP_Guide
Quote:
Currently the mp4creator can read MP3, AAC (ADTS), and MPEG-4 video files. There is also a patch that allows to mux Vorbis in an MP4 file.
Does anybody know anything about this patch? (also known as a "vorbis hack" I think)

Yes I just done it few hours ago...

But when you ask something ( for ex "*.ogm support", "3ivX is compatible witk DP-450, but firmware reject the FourCC, could you change it", etc..) , the answer is always "we are working on it. It will be available in a next firmware"

That's right that I use B-frames ( and uncheck "Dx50 B-vop compatibilty" ).
Maye I should retry with a simple XviD/DivX5 encode, or even a DivX4, you are right.

Really I don't know anything about *.mp4 & AAC ( I just tried yesterday for a few hours, to see if it were better than *.avi ).

So I simply used AACMachine with AACenc_v215, BeSweet1.5b, BeSplitv0.9b. And I let the default options ( but "VBR option" = streaming ).

Maybe it's "MPEG4 AAC LD"... . You can tell me

Have a nice day

Yes. But I really don't see the point of deliberately creating a broken MP4 file. Using that patch, you automatically make your MP4 file's audio unplayable on most (99%?) MPEG4 players.

A short list of players that won't play the vorbis data:
QuickTime, Envivio, MPEG4ip, Ligos, Dicas, anything hardware based...

A short list of players that will play the vorbis data:
?

Deliberately borking a format is so senseless, it even hurts. :-P

Well, I think you can't even select profiles in AACmachine, so it most probably is indeed a LC output.

(Sorry, LC, not LD. LC = Low Complexity, LD = Low Delay)

Try again without using the b-frames. If the player refuses to play, then the problem is with KISS.

Roberto.

Here is the response from Kiss :

Quote:
The .mp4 do not work on the DP-450...
And just for the recall, this logo :

Is :
- On the Box
- On the Kiss Player
- On the Notice

( but it is nevertheless a very very good product )
