Player that can drop fram if needed?

I have a slow computer PII350, Some of old movie such as
Toystory II works fine on my computer using WMP6.4, but some new movie such as Shrek, the video is slower than audio and it getting worse and worse (On faster computer it works just fine). I manage to play it by using virtualdub and check the option "drop frame if behind", this way the movie looks just fine on the PII350, the video drop some frame but it's not a big deal I could not even feel it.

My question is this: I suppose all other player include WMP6.4 should do the same, when video is behind it should drop a few frames to catch up the audio so the whole movie is viewable (I think this is also the idea behind AVI(Audio Video interleave)). Is there some setting in the codec or the player that control this so that I can play movie by WMP6.4 on my computer?

Thanks

In my experience DivX3 handles these situations better than DivX 4.
But it also depends on the clip and on frequency of keyframes.

Lower the quality setting of the codecs to minimal if You haven't done it yet.
