Ok with deinteralcing it is a difference as day and night! Feeling stupid that I did not saw the wood for the trees with all those possible settings. But guess thats part of the learning curve and I am more than thankfull that you all are taking the time to point a newb like me in the right direction!

I am world cup ready now

do you know if you can provide DXVA2 with the chroma sub sample position.

maybe it assumes mpeg1 without additional informations not mpeg2 sub sample position.

that would make the problem a part of EVR and madVR not nvidia even through that'S not a brilliant idea if that is the case.

What's good everyone,
I have been having problems with the OP's config lately. About a year ago I purchased my first 4k monitor, around that time I found this thread. I started to use the settings file posted here as a starting point and decided I really liked the results. I used it with no performance problems at all, fast forward to today and I reinstalled mpc-hc and madvr. Now I cannot play any files without major frame drops. Before I continue my specs:
Core I7 6830k @ 4Ghz
16GB ram @ 3000Mhz
GeForce GTX Titan X Pascal @ 1800Mhz~
120GB SSD for Win 10 64bit/MPC-HC and Madvr 32/64bit
I did find a couple of workarounds:
1. Simply enable FSE, I get zero frame drops except when the player switches to the mode.
2. Setup different display modes within Madvr (ex. 2160p29 etc.). This of course disables Smooth Motion, but the refresh rate now matches the video famerate so it's okay
3. My least favorite and last option if a must, reduce scaling settings.
So I'm hoping someone can give me some advice as to what might be causing the issue, I know it's probably going to be just to reduce the quality settings. However I think that's a little extreme considering it plays fine in full screen, under the same settings with FSE enabled. Thanks for any help or info.

It is interesting that FSE is fine.

Have you tried disabling D3D11 and using Windowed Overlay? How about not presenting a frame every vsync? Usually problems that are solved by FSE involve Windows' desktop composition in some way.

What are your average and max present and rendering times in the different modes? What happens if you disable smooth motion while still using 60 Hz (not recommended for watching, just as a test)?

Are you using my heater or max quality options?

The FSE mode is not working again with 398.46.

Hopefully they fix it before the next "official" release, FSE works well in 398.36.

Thinking about this more, the fact that either no smooth motion OR FSE works you are probably right on the edge of the performance requirements. Do you have the power limit of your titan at 100%?

I think at 100% the power limit does trigger while watching some content at 4K with my "max quality" settings, even at default clocks. Not enough to drop frames when I was testing (I did test my settings with my Titan X (Pascal) at complete defaults) but it was close. I have to admit I always have mine at 120%, even if I am devolting/downclocking. If you are watching 30p especially.

Thanks for the fast response, and I'm sorry I left out some information. I use your Max Quality config, the Heater settings are a bit too much. I run with the power target at 120%, a 50Mhz offset on the core clock and a 300Mhz offset on the memory clock. I use the stock TitanX(Pascal) blower fan cooler, so things heat up quick and that 1800Mhz boost drops to around 1772Mhz.
I have tried some of the suggestions you made already, but I am testing them again right now. I disabled Smooth Motion and left the refresh at 60Hz, the results:
2160p - rendering stats
avg 5 ~ 8ms
max 8 ~ 13ms
1080p - avg 16 ~ 19ms
max 20 ~ 23ms
720p - avg 8 ~ 10ms
max 10 ~ 18ms
SD - avg 13 ~ 16ms
max 16 ~ 20ms
with Smooth Motion
2160p - avg 5 ~ 8ms
max 8 ~ 12ms
1080p - avg 18 ~ 22ms
max 20 ~ 28ms
720p - avg 8 ~12ms
max 10 ~ 23ms
SD - avg 14 ~ 17ms
max 17 ~ 22m

Disabling the DirectX 11 present a frame for every vsync, the render times are similar. Enabling it I get a single dropped frame occasionally, but It does not disturb playback.
And just for good measure I also switched to D3D9 windowed overlay mode but I got constant frame drops.

Thanks again for the help and suggestions.

Hmm... I forgot about heat influencing performance. I am actually water cooled so the GPU never goes above ~35C unless it is really hot inside. My stock settings were running 1860 MHz. Those rendering times look quite good but I still think you might be right on the edge of performance.

With madVR v0.92.14 I start seeing dropped frames with 60p content (16.67ms frames) with reported rendering times at or above ~11ms, so you do need a lot of headroom.

Dropping chroma upscaling to NGU medium, or even image upscaling to NGU high, is not a significant loss of quality.

Okay thanks again, I did play around with dropping the Chroma upscale to NGU AA (medium). It saved about the same amount of render time as Smooth Motion, about 3~4ms. Dropping the Luma doubling from NGU Sharp (very high) down to (high) nearly halved my render times, I think I went from around 20ms on a 1080p30 source down to 9~10ms. I was hoping maybe I missed something, but I'm glad I asked! Oh and thank you for sharing your settings file, amazing work!

Composition rate

Hi,
I am trying to wrap my head around frame rates in hope of getting a perfect 23.976 frame rate with MadVR.
Right now I am at 23.97743Hz.
HD Fury Vertex says 23.975Hz
On the OSD (Ctrl+J) when I have both my primary PC screen on and my projector on there is information regarding "Composition rate" and that rate is at 23.979Hz.
The composition rate do not show when I turn off the primary PC screen and only use my projector.
There are a lot of different Hz showing on various OSD, is this unavoidable?
https://photos.app.goo.gl/aQwadiGSf69NkD5Z9

So my first question is what is composition rate and why is it at 23.979?

I also have, several times and almost gone mad, tried to optimize pixel clocks in the MadVR custom modes with no success, none (well I tried the first 7 optimized pixel clocks) of the pixel clocks did not take and I am back with the EDID/CTA setting.

Mind you, everything works fine with my setup and I have none or almost no frame drops or repeated frames. (I have MadVR set to PCM and not bitstreaming)
This is not my trying to solve a problem but more to understand how to improve with the help of MadVR.

My second question is if it is common to have to try several of the different optimized pixel clocks before there is a match?
https://photos.app.goo.gl/A4hKbNMccgk5EUGYA

This is my setup:
Hardware: Intel Core i5-8600K, ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 6GB DUAL (NVIDIA FW 385.28), Windows 10 Home 64-bit, version 1803
Software: JRiver 24, MadVr 0.92.14
Projector: JVC DLA-I X5500 (RS420, X570R)
Main PC Screen: AOC 4K

Scaler/Splitter: HD Fury Vertex
Top out -> Sony wireless headphones
Bot out -> JVC PJ

In my experience (see config in my sig below) EDID/CTA is the only option that works with the JVCs. It gives me a frame drop/repeat every hour or so in 4K23p RGB 12bits 4:4:4 which is fine. In 1080p, I have a frame drop every 3 or 4 hours.

I use 385.28 which is the last driver working with the JVCs. The more recent drivers introduce a variety of bugs, and only one improvement (for HTPC use): 3D (1080pFP) goes from one frame repeat every 3mn to one frame repeat every 13min.

Great and thank you for a swift answer.
Now I know that I do not have to try more optimized settings and can settle with EDID/CTA, that is good news.

Yes, I made a typo in my original question and I too use 385.28. Many thanks to you for that.

When you deem any other FW suitable for JVC a will try a newer FW but not before you have tried and tested it to be ok.

Question, do you use PCM or Bitstream to your receive?

Bitstream because I need Atmos, DTS:X and Auro 3D. If you don't use immersive sound, PCM is fine.

No, these are special LUTs created for mapping HDR either to your display's HDR mode or SDR. The normal calibration LUTs are all SDR.
