Fastest Avi -> mp4 converter

I was wondering what the fastest(in terms of how quickly it finishes converting one file to another format) video converter is?
The program doesn't need abilties like resizing or lighting correction.
I'm just wanting a quick program for avi to mp4 conversion.

I guess I should say quick and relativly stable. I don't want something that crashes every 5th execution

Any help is appriciated.

try something like i did for avc here (simply rename the .264 extension used in the script to .m4v)

or mp4box

i doubt there is another 100% compliant solution than those two

mux your avi into mp4 if few seconds !

and... i know this isn't your question

but remember that avi and mp4 are CONTAINER not CODEC

But when I try to mux a file it says "muxing file" then "muxing failed" about 3 seconds later.

Is it XVid compatible? I think it must be, because about the first 4 seconds of video display, but then its just the audio track(which is in mp3)

Edit:
Need to clarify, when I try to mux the avi directly to mp4, I get a 680kb file.

When I stripped the video and audio and joined them, I ended up with a 22mb file that had about 4 seconds of video, and the full audio track.

The original avi is about 200mb

I honestly have no idea.
Me = Noob
I thought XVid was its fourcc.
How do I find out what it is?
(I used the search feature before asking so please forgive me for the stupid question)

open the avi in virtualdub and go to the info tab.

Is it listed as "Decompressor"? If so all it says is XviD MPeg-4 Codec.

and you are seeing a picture in virtualdub? do you see a picture for the whole stream from start to end?

Yep, I didn't watch from start to finish, but at each point I jumped to there was video.
I tried another XVid 4 file and it worked.
I also tried a DivX 5.4.1 file and it worked.
After that I tried it one more time and got the same 680kb result. Just one of those o_0 things I guess.

Though I now see that the avis have mp3 for audio.
I'm going to get the joy of stripping the audio/video out, and converting the audio to aac >_<. *Then* muxing the aac and the video raw.

Anyway enough of my OT commenting, thank you for your time, you've been very helpful/patient.
