Two Ati cards in my bin while my 8600GTS is still on my PC....
Still 2/3 ratio....

@tomos
don't want to go to much oftop there could still be light at the tunnel for you i hope AMD/ATI gonna do the right thing and go as open as Nvidia with their UVD2 support for non licensed Developers
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pag...dpau_gpu&num=1 <- this is unique a very long time Linux waited for that and Nvidia made it reality 1 AMD/ATI are currently slow and behind Nvidia. It isn't over yet, though the question remains are AMD/ATI gonna support non licensed Developers on UVD2 and bring out a patch for Mplayer ?
Don't supporting those wouldn't fit in their strategy they already gave access to their Driver but keep UVD2 a 3rd Party Licensed Developer Secret ? (btw Nvidia goes the other way keeping their Driver a Secret opening VP2).
Still a Main Standard needs to be developed for Linux but it's a first direct step to SOA Hardware Video Decoding by both. Just lets wait for next month and see what and how AMD/ATI is gonna offer Developers for Linux and Windows alike in terms of UVD2 access they could gain at least under Linux the head with being complete open by then . Also another thing which imho is of interest is the question of are UVD2 and VP2 programmable ??? could they be leveraged for other Video Codecs in the future by updating (somekind of pre loaded firmware inside the Driver ?). This way Nvidia for example maybe could even add X264 High Predictive Support in future Driver releases

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woq2gZOGQeg <- 100% CPU utilized playback via libavcodec
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cw1IZuskREU <- 100% CPU utilized playback via Nvidia VDPAU VP2 Hardware
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7R90A7ZqLU <- And this is what im 100% sure by now what we have in our Nvidia/ATI GPUs working (a dedicated Video Processor a ARM11 logic for Nvidia the same Video Engine inside the APX 2500)

Nothing different to what ST Micro, Broadcom, Sigma and others Develop, just by Nvidia and ATI and in reality this has nothing todo with CUDA @ all should be complete independent of it just called that way for Marketing Purposes, everything that comes after the Bitstream Decoding though is Shader based (ouput via Direct3D on Windows) and so CUDA like Deinterlacing, DeNoising, Scaling soon Super resolution Conversion and could potentially need some CPU time

Small, but wirey (read: influential)!!!

Thanks for the tip on the card (which I see is only $90 bucks BFG Tech at Frys atm).

Hello.

A little question. I've a PC made specialy for video processing encoding.
As i don't need high 3D capability, i've buy for it a simple little nVidia 6600.
I don't care about speed, but is it possible to use DGVC1DecNv with it ?
If not, which is the first or "lowest" nVidia card that support DGVC1DecNV ?

Thanks.

No, CUDA doesn't run on it and the GPU doesn't have a VP2 video decoding unit.

GeForce 8400 GS (try to get a G98-based model), but if you ever want to use the GPU for filtering HD video, I'd recommend a bit more powerful card (8500/8600/9400/9500GT).

DGVC1DecNV 1.0.1

OSS VC-1 Decoder in ffmpeg

Hi,

there is an open source decoder for VC-1 in current ffmpeg(libavcodec) (http://ffmpeg.org/index.html). Is it possible to use this lib to build a DGVC1Dec that is independent from nvidia cards?

Regards,
Daniel.

Have you already tried using ffmpegSource?
