That card has the VP2 decoding engine that you require.

You can test it using the CUVID server/client applications at my web site. They are not licensed. You can find them at the bottom of this page:

A definitive "Purevideo HD" card list can be found on this page in a PDF file in the column at left "PureVideo HD Support Table" (which BTW confirms the above). Maybe neuron2 you'll want to link to the doc from yours.

BTW I have a 9600GT (and Q6600 cpu/mobo) on-the-way so you sold another card and I'll be donating once the system's built!

Note that Purevideo HD != VP2: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PureVid...ing_confusions
The table you mentioned is somewhat incomplete for checking VP2 availability since it doesn't separate between different GeForce 8800 models, some of which do have VP2. The Wikipedia article lists these and also some of the GPUs that have VP3, i.e. full hardware decoding of VC-1 streams (not that it matters much since DGVC1DecNV works fine with VP2).

Arrgh, I had seen that page and it confused me, cuz it has "some models" and "unknown" qualifiers in a couple of the columns. I guess there is no "definitive list" and I'm disappointed Nvidia's product manager(s) don't publish something more complete...

EDIT: I guess the wiki page *IS* complete assuming VP2 is the magic bullet. It's easy to get distracted by all the "PureVideo HD" qualifiers.

One needs VP2 or greater, e.g., VP3.

Version 1.0.2 test

Here is a test version of DGVC1IndexNV.

* Support new audio types on BluRay disks.

* Improve audio delay calculation.

Don't freak out if your machine ID changes. Your old license file will continue to work. New licenses, however, will use a new ID method that doesn't change when you reformat, boot a different partition, change drives, etc.

http://neuron2.net/dgvc1decnv/DGVC1IndexNV102test.zip

Feedback on this version will be appreciated.

neuron, pls test this file; it doesn't work with 1.02_test while it works with 1.0.1.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/61lfv8

(btw, eac3to doesn't recognize this file)

Cut made via clip.exe as is.

Re-download 1.0.2test. My code for counting orphaned B frames was hosed.

Thank you for pointing this out!

i have a quick question.

i currently have 2 x 8600gs cards @ 512mb each.

i wanted to know if the encoding speed would increase if i got myself a 9800gtx @ 512mb?

my local store has got this bfg 9800gtx oc'd card for sale @ 97 quid which is really tempting me..

DGVc1DecNV uses nVidia's HW decoder, doesn't encode anything. So nothing will change.

^ i was thinking that if the decoding speed increases then maybe it would increase the encoding speed.

As discussed several times, any gain for transcoding will typically be small, because decoding time is small compared to encoding time.
