But seriously, this DVD was very easy to do.

Tool I used:
IFOedit 0.95

Title 1: VTS_01_* is our Widescreen movie (4:3,lettterboxed)
Title 2: VTS_02_* is our Fullscreen movie (4:3, no letterboxed)

__________________________________________________________
1. Create a folder named "Top Gun" and a sub-folder named "Files".
__________________________________________________________
2. Rip the following files of your desired aspect ratio to your ˇ§MBFGWˇ¨folder.

WIDESCREEN: VIDEO_TS.* and VTS_01_*.* files only.
FULLSCREEN: All files except VTS_01_1.VOB to VTS_01_4.VOB
__________________________________________________________
3. Region Free every IFO and save commands if region code commands were detected.
__________________________________________________________
4. Get VTS Sectors.
__________________________________________________________
5. Backup all IFOs to "Files" subfolder
__________________________________________________________
6. In VIDEO_TS.IFO / VMG Overview / Language Menu Unit, do a Delete Playback on the the following.

Menu 5: [entry only] (Programs: 3) (Cells: 3) (uses VOB-IDs: 2) Copy Warnings

Translation: Menu Intro is bypassed. You should have your main menu displayed upon DVD insert now.
__________________________________________________________
7. Save VIDEO_TS.IFO
__________________________________________________________
8. Select your aspect ratio for your action.

WIDESCREEN: Proceed to next step.
FULLSCREEN: Go to step 13.
__________________________________________________________
WIDESCREEN

9. In VTS_01_0.IFO / VMG Overview / Menu Language Unit, delete playback on the following. All VOB-IDs were viewed IFOedit by double-left clicking on line.

Menu 6: [entry only]......(Programs: 1) (Cells: 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 5) Used with Play button
Menu 8: [entry only]......(Programs: 1) (Cells: 1) (uses VOB-IDs: 6) Used with Scene Selection Menu

Translation: Both Aspect Ratio Selection menus do not display. Also by doing this, you will have your Widescreen movie playing now, whether you selected Play button or a chapter in Scene Selection Menu.

Details: VOB-ID 5 contained your Aspect Ratio Selection menu when you press your movie Play button INITIALLY. VOB-ID 6 contained your menu when you INITIALLY selected any chapters in your Scene Selection menu. That's why there are two menus for this movie.
__________________________________________________________
10. Save VTS_01_0.IFO
__________________________________________________________
11. Get VTS Sectors
_________________________________________________________
12. DVD-Play and test. Also test with PowerDVD or WinDVD if you have it. That's it for widescreen. Burn what works for you.

FULLSCREEN

Note: There was two versions of step 13 I could've done. While OPTION 2 gives you less editing, I opt to show both options for future references on how I go about doing testing movies with aspect ratio selection menus.

OPTION 1

13. In VIDEO_TS.IFO / VMGM_PGCI_UT , you need to edit the following pre-commands in the following PGC-Menus. Just right-click on line and change your TitleSet Nr to 2.

PGC-Menu_1
OLD > 3.Pre Command (JumpSS VTSM) Jump to TitleSet(vts): 1, Title(ttn): 1, root-menu [30 06 00 01 01 83 00 00 ]
NEW > 3.Pre Command (JumpSS VTSM) Jump to TitleSet(vts): 2, Title(ttn): 1, root-menu [30 06 00 01 02 83 00 00 ]

PGC-Menu_5
OLD > 1.Post Command (JumpSS VTSM) Jump to TitleSet(vts): 1, Title(ttn): 1, root-menu [30 06 00 01 01 83 00 00 ]
NEW > 1.Post Command (JumpSS VTSM) Jump to TitleSet(vts): 2, Title(ttn): 1, root-menu [30 06 00 01 02 83 00 00 ]

PGC-Menu_11
OLD > 3.Pre Command (JumpSS VTSM) Jump to TitleSet(vts): 1, Title(ttn): 1, angle-menu [30 06 00 01 01 86 00 00 ]
NEW > 3.Pre Command (JumpSS VTSM) Jump to TitleSet(vts): 2, Title(ttn): 1, angle-menu [30 06 00 01 02 86 00 00 ]

PGC-Menu_12
OLD > 3.Pre Command (JumpSS VTSM) Jump to TitleSet(vts): 1, Title(ttn): 1, angle-menu [30 06 00 01 01 86 00 00 ]
NEW > 3.Pre Command (JumpSS VTSM) Jump to TitleSet(vts): 2, Title(ttn): 1, angle-menu [30 06 00 01 02 86 00 00 ]

PGC-Menu_13
OLD > 2.Pre Command (JumpSS VTSM) Jump to TitleSet(vts): 1, Title(ttn): 1, angle-menu [30 06 00 01 01 86 00 00 ]
NEW > 2.Pre Command (JumpSS VTSM) Jump to TitleSet(vts): 2, Title(ttn): 1, angle-menu [30 06 00 01 02 86 00 00 ]

Tranlsation: Your fullscreen menu will be displayed by default.

Details: There were two separate menus in this DVD. One for widescreen and one for fullscreen, as you can tell in your edits. We needed to basically force your navigations to go to Titleset 2 as this is your fullscreen movie's titleset.

*******************************************
OPTION 2

13. In VTS_01_0.IFO / VTSM_PGCI_UT / PGC-Menu_1 / PGC Command Table. Right click on any precommands and select "Add PreCommand". You will have a new pre-command #8 at the end with a command NOP. Hexedit as follows by double-left clicking and entering the hex value of new command into Hex Edit Module window.

OLD > 8.Pre Command NOP [00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ]
NEW > 8.Pre Command Set GPreg<9> mov (set-val)<2> [71 00 00 09 00 02 00 00 ]

Translation: Fullscreen movie will play after Aspect Ratio Selection is bypassed/disabled.
Details: Okay, how does DVD tell you what how to play widescreen or fullscreen when you select either? Most people would look at the button commands in VOBedit. What I do for a faster method is monitoring the GPregs (General Parameter Registers). To view your GPregs, first press DVD-Play button. In your DVD-Play panel, there is a square button, to the far right, with a dot in it. Press that and the bottom will extend out for your 16 GPregs status.

Now when you have your Aspect Ratio Selection window in IFOedit preview window, what we need to find out is which significant GPreg will change value AFTER you have done your two tests. One for selecting widescreen and the other for pressing fullscreen. I found out in this movie that GPreg<9>, BEFORE selecting either aspect ratios, contains the value 0. When selecting widescreen, it toggled to 1 and when selecting fullscreen, it toggled to 2. We need to know these values as when you disable your aspect ratio selection menu, how is the DVD navigate properly if certain values are not met. That's why, for this specific DVD, I opt to set/force our GPreg<9> to hold a value of 2 after we disable our aspect ratio menu so that the DVD would play fullscreen from the start.

14. Save VIDEO_TS.IFO you did Option 1 or VTS_01_0.IFO for Option 2
__________________________________________________________
15. Select option

If you did Option 1, go to next step (step 16).
If you did Option 2, go to step 18.
__________________________________________________________
16. In VTS_02_0.IFO / VMG Overview / Menu Language Unit, delete playback on the following.

Tranlsation: Both Aspect Ratio Selection menus do not display. Also by doing this, you will have your fullscreen movie playing now, whether you selected Play button or a chapter in Scene Selection Menu.

Details: VOB-ID 5 contained your Aspect Ratio Selection menu when you press your movie Play button INITIALLY. VOB-ID 6 contained your menu when you INITIALLY selected any chapters in your Scene Selection menu. Thatˇ¦s why there are two menus for this movie.

17. Save VTS_02_0.IFO
__________________________________________________________
18. Get VTS Sectors
_________________________________________________________
19. DVD-Play and test. Also test with PowerDVD or WinDVD if you have it. That's it for fullscreen. Burn what works for you.
