Sometimes the videos I convert for my iPod are in way too many pieces but it's rare to get. So I have no choice but convert those many pieces into one file.
For example if an episode is 40mins long then it probably will have 1-6 pieces. Episode.1.part1.avi Episode.1.part2.avi Episode.1.part3.avi Episode.1.part4.avi .... and so on but all adds up only around 200 - 300MB. And there isn't just one episode in the entire series Lol. |

Yes, also I have encoded two blu-rays locking to DVD9 size and I fear they might as well be a little oversized too.
You are right. I will begin locking to a 5-10 mb margin to be on the safe side as well.

I want to know the difference in ref frames, seems default is 3.I have had some movies (bluray) that have 5 sometimes 4.So the more the better,I assume? A default bluray encode will take my pc about 5.5 hrs.Does using more ref frames mean way longer encode? Also does trellis 2 be that much better? I read it makes the encode take way longer, correct? Thanks to who helps!

3 is optimal. above that starts placebo. your choice. options with higher number will aways take more time. your choice.

More reference frames isn't necessarily a placebo, but generally the drawbacks outweigh the benefits; there's scenes where up to 16 reference frames could make a difference, but it's often hardly worth the extra encoding time, and would leave your output file unplayable on most hardware. Or software, for that matter. Lots of HD players out there (including TMT and KMplayer) can't even handle an increase in B-frames properly. So, keeping your reference frames at max 4 for your 1920x108p content is probably your most optimal, overall bet.

I don't know, just habit of 2 pass and wanting to control size, after using TsMuxer to mux vid and audio I see what the size was(usually 20/24Gbs movie only) I try to stay close to half the size, and it never fails me to come out with a movie that you can't tell the difference. I always do dvd's with crf20.Blurays I only do the video and mux the HD audio back in after with TsMuxer.
How would you know what size, lock the size in mb just like 2 pass? I may try one over night, crf 20. stin |
