Which tool to edit h264 with keyframe search ?
Hi,
I'd like to find a tool able to cut off some extracts from h264 streams (in mp4, mkv or ts container) and gather them in one step (I mean without having to export all extracts one by one and gather them after) without re-encoding video ! I found SolveigMM AVI Trimmer + MKV which can do that ; http://www.videohelp.com/tools/SolveigMM-AVI-Trimmer But it has no keyframe search and no frame by frame search. For avi, I use Virtual Dub for years and it has both these skills which I often use. Avidemux has it but doesn't work very well. TS-Doctor, Videoredo TVSuite and SolveigMM Video Splitter (more elaborate than SolveigMM AVI Trimmer + MKV) look great and have nearly all I need but they are not free and I believe they lack the search by keyframe (according to the snapshots I saw). Do you know a tool for h264 having the search by keyframe and smart rendering to avoid unnecessary video re-encoding ? Actually, the search by keyframe isn't maybe that important, but I wonder how SolveigMM AVI Trimmer + MKV (and other programs in the same kind) works as it allows to cut on any frame (not only on keyframes, they call it frame accuracy) and doesn't seem to re-encode anything (not even the cut GOPs) because the export is very fast and because I don't see any h264 encoder in its folder (in C:\Program Files). What happens when the cut is done in the middle of a GOP and not a keyframe ? Does this program re-create only the cut GOPs (putting a keyframe where one cut) or there is nothing to re-create and one can cut on any frame and gather incomplete GOPs (in h264) ? I worked a lot on avi with Virtual Dub which can't cut on a frame if it's not a keyframe in direct stream mode. Has the h264 the same limits ? I worry about that because I'd like to keep "good" streams, compliant with Blu-ray players for example. Thanks Last edited by Music Fan; 2nd June 2012 at 16:59. |

SolveigMM has a new product, I haven't tested it, but maybe it meets your requirements:
http://www.solveigmm.com/en/products/video-splitter/ And yes, it only transcodes the GOPs it has to, otherwise it is lossless. |

Sorry, I only saw your link to SolveigMM AVI Trimmer + MKV Version 2 and missed the other.

It can't. /edit: Ok, I see now that you specifically mentioned "free" and the Splitter, so my post did not really answer your question. Maybe someone else can. Last edited by sneaker_ger; 2nd June 2012 at 19:44. |
