Wow, pretty cool! Yes, I thought on shaving some speed with the 8 coords but was wrong.

I think here we might have a masktools2 killer. For me the speed improvement defeats the subtle change.
In any case I have yet to test in HBD.

Here is mt_expand(mode="both"), slower in any case:
